Re: Rear Axle Ratio?
(What you measured would be a ratio of 3.25:1) The standard Ford AA spiral bevel is a 6.6:1 ratio because it has 33 teeth on the ring gear and 5 teeth on the pinion. 33 divided by 5 equals 6.6 The high-speed Ford AA spiral bevel ratio is 5.14:1 because it has 36 teeth on the ring gear and 7 teeth on...

Pinion Flange Seal (option)
Pinion Flange.jpg This is a photograph of a 1930 spiral bevel gear pinion shaft flange. This is the flange that the torque tube bolts up to. There is a face groove that originally had a cork gasket stuffed into the groove to control oil leaks. The flange on the torque tube is flat to crush the cork a...

Drive Shaft Repair
Drive Shaft Repair.jpg After degreasing and inspection, I realized my drive shaft is more severely worn than I originally thought. The original drive shaft seal, AA-4686, has worn a groove in the shaft. There are many different approaches to repair this shaft, but I am curious what others have done...

Re: UNIVERSAL JOINT AND CLUTCH DISC
There is a thread on this site about using the original u-joint spider and re-fitting with modern needle bearing caps. I am not aware of a source for a new u-joint. (I plan to work on u-joint issues soon) For a 10 inch AA truck clutch to Ford specifications, see the current thread. Clutch Heaven

Re: CLUNK IN DRIVE TRAIN WHEN SHIFTING
I agree. The sound is probably related to backlash. When the torque is gone it’s quiet , when the torque is back it clunks when the backlash is taken up

AA-4811 output gear loose in the pocket of the short drive shaft? The universal joint whipping and banging against its housing?

Re: Original AA colors
If you have interest, I will mail you the card with the popsicle stick on it, or you can buy a quart of HG and BLK and mix according to the formula provided. (Then re-paint your wheel barrel or some other object that needs a coat of paint and then admire your Rock Moss Green paint job, LOL!)

Re: Clutch Heaven
The clutch face material came from ProTec Friction Supply, Mt Kisco NY. They have various types and grades of material. I chose their Thermofiber 2016 product which is a Kevlar blend. They have full Kevlar and really exotic stuff as well as the most basic run of the mill material. I wanted a full si...

Re: Torque Tube Grease Retainer (seal) Dimension?
Neill, Thank for your help The new seal is an SKF 12506. It’s.406 thick X 1.987 OD. It cost $8.97. It seems like a perfectly good oil seal made to today’s standards.
