Re: Accessory Governor
Actually we all should have them to keep the rest of the speeding numbers on the roads from pushing our foot through the floorboards to keep up!. At least some govenors can be set for a 'Redline'. Some however are a set speed govenor, and cannot be slowed down.

Re: 4 speed Transmission counter shaft question
its easy to make one as I think its a standard size. MSC sells hardened ground stock. Just cut to length with an abrasive saw, and grind the notch for keeper. and .009 aint nada! Id worry if there is a pronounced step in the shaft that the bearing cut. The teeth are huge on these, and only had 1 tra...

Re: 6 volt vs 12 volt system
I switched over to a 12v system a decade ago, before starting a frame off restoration. I think Ill switch back to the 6 volt once I get it running again(If ever) 1/2 the reason to drive these beasts is the experiance of yesteryear. Nothing quite matches Driving down a hardly used forgotten road, bun...

Re: Which would you use?
slow, but a lot of pressure with carbide. Ideally insert tooling, then ya can go up on the speed a bit. THe case hardening on the forgings is rather deep, and very hard. Ideally ground after, but if its going to be sleeved, its not nessesary.

Re: Which would you use?
@ Stakebed. Its actually easier than it seems. I turned both 1/2's of the rear end down, one at a time mind ya, but with a good grip on the chuck, and ram in the tailstock, I had no issues of creep. I did counterbalance with somthing for the side with the pinion tho. I remember bolting it thru the h...

Re: pressure plate and disc
Even having these redone by a 'clutch/flywheel shop' they come back adjusted wrong. If the fingers are in too far the release will be really abrupt, and apt to throw your head agenst the back of the cab. It will still work, but feathering the clutch becomes impossible. Do set these with a clutch fri...

Re: 29 AA rear end
not sure the cap, but any modern gear oil will work, as there are a lot of additives they didnt have for the old thick viscus oils. I would not use the lighter oils in the trannies. They tend to 'pump' the oil out of the top of the shift tower, and the gears tend to not want to find their place as e...

Re: Automatic wipers
@ Farmerden Regarding the 31 defroster.. He just needed to open the windshield about 1/2" This blows the air straight up the windshield. I have driven many miles with the front open like this, and it works perfectly as intended.. Not that this would matter to the ref. :x And for all matters reg...

Re: Inside the Venturi
Oh and as far as fuel goes, for a long time I was buying paint thinner at home despot for 1$/gallon when gas was 3$/ mixing to a little less than 1/2 a tank. Was a little stubborn to start, but lotsa torque. Sadly all the thinners are more than gas now :x Oh an interesting sidebar to venturis. Apper...

Re: Inside the Venturi
I have had luck taking a piece of 1/4" rod ,slitting it lengthwise from the end and slipping a piece of emery thru it. Into the drill it goes, and insta flapwheel. Does a good job of polishing insides, and unlike the purchased flapwheels, does not remove a ton of metal. That being said, if you ...

They should have locating notches in the socket, and a 'pin' to keep this issue at bay(Or perhaps this is reversed(Its been too long since I needed lights!))

I used it all the time all over san Francisco bay area, northern California. it was used as a truck and driven almost daily. when stationed at treasure island us navy it was used quite a few times to help other sa...

Re: several random fixerup questions
usually the cutout is stuck on the contact points. you can take the lid off the cutout either by bending the tabs on the bottom, or un soldering it. then just pry the points apart with somthing. you then need a small file, or a bit of emery to make the points bright, and partially crowned in the mid...
