Re: Rear End Questions for the Wise

I managed to secure a new pinion pilot bearing and race which should help to steady that end. The interesting difference between the single A rear end is that you have two gaskets on either side of the ring to play with. On the AA you only have one. The gasket in there originally was quite thick and...

Re: Rear End Questions for the Wise

Hello Farrell, First, I'll answer some of the easier questions. Pinion bearing shims were vailable in .005, .060, and .070. Initially the pinion was shimmed with at least one .060 shim. In April 1931 the housing neck was made thicker and the .060 shim was elimanated and adjustments were just made w...

Rear End Questions for the Wise

A few questions for the builders here. This ia a 1930 High Spead rear end and following Jim Schilds book, the service bulletins, and various others I am left wondering about a couple things Setting up the pinion seems straight forward enough, but when I get to setting up the ring to pinion, all info...

Re: Torque tube snap ring

For the '28/'29 worm drive torque tube there is an expansion snap ring which fits a grove in the torque tube. The photo above shows the snap ring which snaps into a grove in the drive shaft (for '30/'31 AA's) Neil, seeings as I have lost the snap ring I did a little looking in the parts books and n...

Re: Torque tube snap ring

Is this the set-up you are referring to? Well that explains it Mike, mine was installed incorrectly. I thought it odd but the speedo drive then thrust washer came out and the snap ring is in behind up against the bearing. I think I'll pull the torque tube to make more room whithout the shaft in the...

Torque tube snap ring

Any one have any tips on removing the snap ring retaining the upper torque tube bearing? I have managed to get this rather stiff ring to move aside from the slot but pulling it out seems to be more of a bear than the Model A style. I may have to build a tool. I tried getting a small screw in beside ...

Re: Rear Drum removal

Glad you got the wheels off. Did you ever figure just what it is that makes removing a spin free wheel so hard to remove. I really don't put much faith in heat, because, after so much it will transfer to the axle and both hub and axle will expand at the same rate. What I have learned (from some) is...

Rear Drum removal

Well I managed to grin a bit,....... once I got up off the floor.................... Some background. Just before New Years I dragged the high speed rear end out of the back yard of my Fathers place. With the grace of the gods (your choice) and and cherry picker I managed to get it in the pick up an...

Re: Clutch problem

Is it possible that the pedal shaft collar is installed wrong? If it is it may limit travel back to the normal position and allow the pedal to go too far the other way. Does the clutch operate?

Re: Guidance for installing wheelwells AA '31 Panel Delivery

Have read a number of previously published articles regarding wheelwell installation for both A's and AA's, but would appreciate more knowledge and guidance. My AA has 600-20 tires on it, currently has one side mount behind drivers door. I would like to install wheelwells on both left and right sid...
