Re: Dismantling doors
Before getting on the screws too hard, Eastwood now makes a tool they call a "Screw Buster" SKU 32037. It makes it possible to impact the screws out sometimes without damage so that many of the screws can even be reused. Even with this, WD-40 is the first step as it helps minimize damage t...

Re: high speed rear ends
Brian, I have never seen seals there. They are to be pushed through from the diff side out almost to the brake end of the housing. Use a piece of 1" pipe and a set of Harbor Freight seal installers and a good LED flashlight. First make sure you have the old seals out before you try to install t...

Re: sandblast a rolling chassis
I take the radiator, cab, and sheet metal off, plug any holes, protect any parts with a special finish like shift handle, and put it on the trailer. You may or may not want to leave the wheels on or off depending on how you want to do it. Rear wheels off allows a better blast of the rear springs, bu...

Length of Dipstick for Dual High?
Does anybody have a dipstick from a dual high that you can measure from where it sits in the cap down to the full mark or full range? I don't have one accessible and I need to check the lube level.
Thanks,
Dave
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Driveshaft bearing
Bob, I just called Terry at Little Dearborn (They have since downsized and moved) and he said they no longer have their stock of AA parts. He recommended the guy who bought many of them (Chuck's Trucks 203-288-2769) If I am not mistaken, I believe those same bearings, seals, and race are used in the...

Re: Front radius rods question
While mixing and matching front end parts you should be aware that there are a number of different spindles, bearings, and hubs for these 28 & 29 trucks. If I remember correctly, my Oct 28 had some of these parts on it that the Service Bulletins said should be replaced (free) at the next dealer ...

Re: Putting Wire Spokes on the '28/'29
Many years ago I had the same problem and found some slightly raised steel hole plugs that snapped right into the wheel. You might check Graybar Electric or Grainger or McMaster-Carr. If you want a more "authentic" interim look or if you have axle shafts pushing these out, you can use a ho...

Re: 28 worm drive brake drums
Kevin, You might also look at play between the hub and the axle housing. It is not uncommon to have the bottom of the wheel bearing surface on the axle surface worn down (you can see it with the hub off) along with worn rear wheel bearings (often caused by the irregularities in the bottom of the axl...

Magnus, First I must compliment on your ability to get these photos onto the forum. You are far better at it than I am. I would be very interested in finding out how those transmissions and rear differential are attached together. Any pictures or service manual diagrams or other information on how F...

Re: worm drive rear end cleaning
It is good that you are aware of the need for the proper gear lube. Just so you know, there was an article in the 2017 Double AAer on selecting the proper gear lube. It is not rocket science but many of the Model A suppliers are claiming they are providing the proper lube when there is nothing to ba...

Re: Rear hub bearings
Jeff, In my book, it is totally toast. With wear so uneven, the axle shaft may be bent also. So if you have the other hub off and it looks good, you might be down to having one good hub and axle shaft, some brake parts, and a drive shaft out of all this. If this axle is not a high speed ratio, it is...

Re: Rear hub bearings
I tried removing one of those inner races on a 28 (slightly shorter and smaller bearing) and was never able to move it before the end of the race (where the groove for the snap ring is) snapped off. Maybe the outcome would have been better if I had filled it with dry ice, but I would try it on your ...
