Re: Front leaf spring

The 1928/1929 AA chassis used a front spring which was the same width as the A chassis (but not the same spring). Starting January 1930, the AA used a front spring which was the same width as the A chassis rear spring. I suggest you know what you need before taking to a vendor tech. Same goes for bu...

Re: Brake rod anti rattle return springs

Nick,
As per the RGJS E supplement - All brake rod retracting springs were black enamel and were the same as those used on the A chassis. Refer to Area 7 of the RGJS.

So, if what you are ordering is actually the A chassis springs, then the answer is yes.

Re: Axle bolt torque

Mat,
Those bolts use castle nuts and cotter pins. They should be tightened very snug and then tightened more to allow the cotter pins to be inserted. I don't know of any torque specifications.

Re: AA worm drive

Mat,
The worm drives the worm gear. The worm gear drives both axles via spider gears. See http://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-4000-rear-axle/#wta

Re: Spare Tire Carrier

How does the tire carrier mount to a '28 AA with platform bed? I have two carriers. One has 9" heavy straps to complete the mount/hinge. The other one has only the loop curled at the forward end of the carriers main straps. Is the same carrier used for wire wheels as the disc type single wheel?Than...

Re: Express Bed hold down strap bolts

Neil: The picture I have is the one you sent me 3 months ago. The dimensions are the same as you posted. I have been assuming that that is the correct bolt? I have 2 originals that are are worn, but we are using them currently for the mock up of the bed. Was this picture you sent me correct? Please...

Re: 1931 82-B Closed Cab (Steel Top)

I just realized this is the original cab that was on the 229A service car that was (also) in La Verne CA. Guess the guy restoring it found a better cab to use. FYI - Yes, originally there was a complete Service Car with a 229-A service body. The project was mostly restored using a different cab bef...

Looks like the old writing on the door is "Ford - Mercury - Lincoln Zephyr". Did a dealer use this truck, after 1939? (when Mercury was introduced).
I don't have any information regarding the dealer. The cab was for a late 1931 Service Car.

Re: 1931 82-B Closed Cab (Steel Top)

The recessed left door was standard for the 199-A Ice truck and 229-A Service car. It was special equipment when tires larger than 6:00x20 were ordered for dump, coal, and garbage bodies. This door was used in conjunction with the left front fender AA wheel carrier.

Re: The Right Frame for a Mail Truck

(I am hoping that Neil can help with this question) I have a 1930 Ford AA truck frame that is in excellent shape. Based upon Neil's work, it is a AA-5005-B-d1. It measures 171-5/16 long. The truck had an 82-A cab with a 1930 style fuel cap. The fuel tank and the fire wall are in good shape. The rad...
