Re: Canadian Timken differential
Pinesdune : Thank you for the ratios. I was curious how "deep" they would be. The only way to use them today in other than a "backroads only" or "yard truck" would certainly require some sort of overdrive, if not a combination of overdrives!! Although, with the open dri...

Could you please furnish the gear ratios available for the Canadian rear axle gear sets when new(as well as the gear set you are working with)?

Re: How wide between running board outer edges?
Another note: there may be a little +/- on the rear number as it was taken both over & under the torque tube, but that 67" measurement was taken at the rear running board mount(These are "short boards") which is also basically at the rear of a Roadster cab(76-A) on a 131-1/2"...

Re: How wide between running board outer edges?
Nov. '28 truck : 66" outside to outside where they bolt to the front fenders/ 67" outside to outside where they bolt to the rear running board support. NOTE : many people forget that the frame is tapered, so it makes a difference where the measurement is taken. Hope this helps.

Re: 28 worm drive brake drums
The steel drums are already on the thin side : DO NOT TURN THEM!! The original woven linings will help. The fading you describe sounds like a material or adjustment problem: heating up after a few miles sounds like "Brake Drag" from being too tight or possibly weak return spring or a bind ...

Re: Building a shop in my back yard in Sacramento SIMPLE
Suggest "Going to Silent Running" when dealing with the permit process: they tend to get "Pissy" when they think you are either "mocking a sacred cow" or attempting an "end run on their "HOLY WRIT"(which most of them don't understand either, except that i...

Re: 1928 4 Speed? Plus AA Mirror advice
That early brake light is a nice touch! My '28 has the frame number under the cowl section, so the actual number location may vary depending on who was stamping & how rushed they were, etc. (to put it another way : "close" counted. LOL!)

Re: 1928 4 Speed? Plus AA Mirror advice
If the 4-spd trans was added to a '28, they might very well have removed the E-brake handle from the left in order to use the one on the trans. What was the given vin number on the title? Without raising the body off the frame, you're stuck with that number or the engine number, either of which may ...

Re: 1928 4 Speed? Plus AA Mirror advice
That truck is a real Beauty!! The 4-spd was added later(3-spd was original in '28). Check in the books for exact year by serial number(should be on the title, so you don't need to dismantle the truck down to the frame to find it). Where are you located(not displayed in your log-in "handle"...

Re: Lift Cylinder
It's probably a waste of time to repair that collar: it's been brazed & re-broken, so it's probably quite brittle by now. If you have access to a milling machine(or know someone who does) I recommend making a new piece out of mild steel (instead of what looks like cast iron) for several reasons ...

Re: 1931 AA WEIGHT OF TRUCK
Knowing the weight of your truck is a good idea, but if it's exempt, why does the clerk demand it? You have a couple of choices: you can use a commercial scale & bring it with you, or you can ask for the manager & ask "Why do you need the weight, as all you would need it for is to calcu...

Re: 1931 AA WEIGHT OF TRUCK
I don't see where you are from, but in CA a Commercial Vehicle (Truck, etc.) pre 1936, is weight-fee exempt, although most DMV employees are ignorant of the fact, & will try to charge you. If this applies to you, refer them to Vehicle Code section 9401. Also, if they try for back fees, refer the...
