Re: Would you use this wheel?

Thanks for the suggestion Neil. The rim outer is in great shape so I will save it for some time when I am able to locate a good rim inner. My welded rim inner will end up hanging on the wall of my shop until I am able to find a use for it. I remember making reversed rims, to change the wheel offset,...

Re: Would you use this wheel?

Thank you dhetch for the offer of the rim. I already have 4 good rims, 3 are 1930 and 1 is 1931. I did grind out the welds on the cracked 1930 rim you saw in the photo. As I ground out the welds, I noticed other fracture lines and decided to give up on the rim. Its a shame to have it end up in the s...

Re: Would you use this wheel?

The two photos are of the same rim, inside and outside. As you can see from the photos, the rims are not rusted out and I too have wondered what may have caused the cracks that required welding. Since it is already in my shop, I am going to clean up the welds and make certain there is nothing else w...

Would you use this wheel?

I recently acquired this 1930 Budd wheel and intend to use it after I clean up the welds. There was an 8-ply bias tire on the rim when I got it, but I do not know if it had been previously running on some rig. After cleaning up the rim, there appears to be no other issues. My truck is not a show tru...

Re: synthiac oil

I drive my truck mainly on gravel roads so I change my oil more frequently than folks in the lower 48. My oil preference is a high-zink formula used in racing motor oil so I use Valvoline VR1. This is probably an overkill, but it works for me.

Re: Axle housing year

Thanks Bob. I will check to see if I can locate a date code stamped on the housing. There are no rear axle reinforcements as shown in the Jim Schild book.

Regards, Jim

Hi,
Does anyone know what year rear end has the number AA-4192-C stamped on the axle housing? This is a bevel gear, 6.6:1 rear end.

Thanks for your help, Jim

Re: Coupling Shaft Question

IMG_7281-copy.gif Bob, I was able to back off the bolt at the end of the shaft with a pipe wrench but, of course, the bolt, washer, and lock washer are unusable. Thanks for pursuing the issue with me. It appears the previous owner installed the universal after the bolt, washer, and lock washer was ...

Re: Coupling Shaft Question

Thanks for the post Bob. I looked at the end of my coupling shaft with a 10 power magnifying glass and I do not see the possibility that there is or was a bolt on the end of the shaft. The next step is to determine what damaged the shaft, or maybe it was installed in that condition. I expect there w...

Coupling Shaft Question

IMG_7277-copy.gif I had to both remove the drive shaft and move the engine forward several inches to take the coupling shaft out of my 1930 AA. I noticed that my coupling shaft has a "guide" after the spline and this "guide" (for lack of a better word) is the reason the coupling...
