Re: A Sad Story

Re: A sad story I came across this report, originally filed August 31. 2014. I thought it had long gone away, but it is still up on the discussion group. I suppose I should tell you the final outcome of the event. As I reported originally, the truck was one I sold to one of my students, he meticulou...

Re: AA 1930 side and end boards for sale

Yes, the original side and end boards had steel posts. The boards I am selling are replacements that were on the truck when I acquired it. If the set I am selling were original, or had all steel posts I would not be selling the parts for $200.

AA 1930 side and end boards for sale

Model AA Side Boards For Sale I have for sale six sideboards, and two rear end boards for a 1930 AA flat bed truck. I do not have the front boards adjacent to the cab. The truck was totaled in 2014 after being taken to a restoration shop following a major collision. The restorer wanted the two board...

Appraiser/evaluator

To all: I am looking at a 1930 Chrysler Sedan located in Bedford Heights, Ohio. I believe that is outside Cleveland, Ohio. Does anyone on this list know of a reliable appraiser/examiner in that area whom I can hire to look at the car and report its condition to me? You can reply to me through this g...

Re: looking for 4 speed snap rings for transmission

This reply is obviously a little late, but when the restorer rebuilt the transmission on my 30 AA, we did some of the work in my machine shop. We were unable to get snap rings the thicknesses we wanted, so we ground down thicker ones on my surface grinder. For what it's worth that is information for...

Re: Hidden disk breaks?

When I was in an accident a year ago with my 30 AA the truck was empty, and those 14 " drum brakes locked up the wheels at 35 MPH. We left skid marks in the road. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Re: Repairs to '30 AA

To all, My truck has a 131" frame. The reason for my question about the difference in 29 to 30 frames is that I have been offered two '29 frames in good condition. If I am going to restore my truck, now that my question has been answered, I will look for a '30 frame. There is little doubt that ...

Repairs to '30 AA

To all, I have two questions: 1. Can a 1929 frame be used with '30 components? I doubt it, but some "experts" have said differently. My truck has an 82B cab, four speed transmission, and was made midway through 1930. My truck was wrecked, I need a frame, and a lot more, for that matter. 2....

1930 AA Appraiser

1/15/15 To all: On July 9 2014 my recently and fully restored AA stake body truck was involved in a collision when a driver in the opposite lane broke into my lane and accelerated into my truck head on. The car following me rear-ended me at the same time. The truck, my grandson, and I all sustained ...

A Sad Story

8/31/14 In April 2014 I was given 1930 AA Stake Body truck fully restored as a working truck. It was a gift from the restorer, a former student of mine who actually bought it from me about ten years ago, after I had started to restore it almost twenty years earlier. Why he gave it back to me is anot...

Re: Cold bluing kit?

From time to time I have used a compound generically known as "rust converter" available in many auto parts stores. It is intended to chemically convert rust into a stable condition, at the same time leaving a black coating where it is applied. Normally it is intended to be used before pri...

Battery Charging

Second Question: I have only recently owned my 1930 AA (for the second time) after it was restored by a former student of mine. (long story not necessary now). He converted it to a negative ground 12 volt system all in accord with the information in the "Schild book" and in accord with oth...

Starting engine

To the list: Two problems, and one may be solved. In case I am wrong, the "solved problem" first. On now two occasions I have gone somewhere with my 30 AA, 12 volt alternator and 12 volt coil and I have had a hard time starting it. Normally it lights off within seconds of cranking it. Last...

Shifting a double A four speed tranny

5/14/14 Hello to the list. I have a four speed 1930 AA stake body truck. The transmission is filled with clean 600W oil, in most respects the truck runs --- like a 1930 AA truck --- but I can't downshift the thing no matter how much I double-clutch. Here's the catch. Twenty years ago I owned the tru...
