Dropping out of 4th
Hi W e are in UK with a '29 recovery truck which drops out of 4th very regularly, the only answer being a passenger to hold it in! Have tried suppliers here but they only seem to have shafts for the A. No springs or balls. The springs for the A appear to be bigger and no-one has balls (?) Does anyon...

Dropping out of 4th.
We are in UK with a '29 (we think) AA recovery truck. This has for a while now been dropping out of 4th gear, usually at the most inconvenient time. We have the top of the gearbox off and the shafts out and nothing looking obviously wrong. The suppliers here in UK only have bits for the A box. We ar...

side window glass
Just taken our Club AA recovery truck on our London to Brighton heavy vehicle run here in England. It ran beautifully, around 150 miles. Anway onto the serious stuff, some years ago the side windows were replaced and they have now cracked badly, long cracks. The glass must be laminated? In modern ca...

Re: 1931 AA WEIGHT OF TRUCK
We had our recovery truck weighed some years back at 1.8tons, which is just a fraction over 4000lbs. It does have a hefty crane on the back though! Here in UK the rules are that we don't need an annual test (MOT) and no road tax to pay, the vehicle does have to be registered annually, in our case as...

Re: Any other UK AA'ers?
RJ I live in Marden to the south of Maidstone in Kent. Our village Motor Club owns a 1929 Model AA recovery truck. We have spent the last few years fitting the rebuilt original engine and getting it running. May 1st it completed The London-Brighton HCVS run - hurrah at last!!! I missed the run but w...

Re: To run with stat or not?
Hi, Well after your good advices we took the truck out today for a run and covered some 65 miles with no problems at all. We ran without thermostat, BUT we covered around 40% of the radiator at the bottom, just with cardboard at this stage. It ran well, temperature when nice and hot around 80C and f...

Re: To run with stat or not?
Resize IMG_0872.jpg Thanks for all your helpful replies. My mate and I have chatted this through and think we will run without stat, seems to be the safest thing to do, and try blanking off part of the radiator, with cardboard to start with until we are comfortable with engine operation. Apart from...

To run with stat or not?
Hi all I am a member of the Marden Motor Club, a small village in the south east corner of England. The Club was donated a 1929 AA Recovery truck (it has a crane on the back) in the early '60s and has been running it ever since. The engine was changed not long after the acquisition, due to frost dam...
