It is my understanding that this unit replaced the short shaft when Ford went from the 3 speed to the 4 speed transmission. Others who know more than I can chime in...

Re: Rear hub cap problem
The axle nut is flush with the end of the axle. Discussions with another member may have revealed the problem. He suggested that the wheels may have been over torqued causing the problem. Not sure at this time what the cause is, but I'll continue to investigate. Maybe later this week I'll swap wheel...

Rear hub cap problem
I had an interesting problem crop up this weekend. I pulled both rear wheels and drums to inspect the brakes. They were not working properly, only to find that the inner seal on both drums were letting bearing grease pass through, onto the brake assembly. My guess is that the previous owner pumped t...

Re: Tires - what's right
Universal Tire in Lancaster PA will bend the stems to your specs. Just sent them the photo with the dimensions. I bought a full set of tires, tubes, and liners and they bent the stems for nothing. Good people.

Re: Mirror Needed UPDATE
I went to the national truck show in Macungie this weekend and found a nice set of stainless mirrors from a Mack dealer. (WattsTruckCenter.com) They are meant to mount on a fender, so I removed some of the base hardware and mounted it where the stanchions are. They work fine and didn't break the ban...

Re: Got wheels assembled - safety question
I don't know enough about the safety issues, you might want to consult a tire shop in your area. As far as the bent stem issue, I had Universal Tire in Lancaster bend my valve stems before they shipped them to me. I sent them a small sketch to show how much bend and where the bends needed to be and ...

Re: Mirror Needed
Thanks, Chris, but I need a mirror that extends out past the ladders and the hard suction lines. As I see it, they have to extend about 14" from the base. I'm going to the truck show in Macungie this weekend and hope to see some in person. If not, I'm going to try the ones at Vintage Power Wago...

Truck's Debut
Here is the truck in our annual Flag Day Parade. It's its maiden voyage, so to speak, after the new engine and the new lettering. It's not complete, but a lot closer than before. Performed beautifully!!

Re: Mirror Needed
Thanks for the photos, nice truck. I have since found a telescoping mirror at Vintage Power Wagons that may work. There are two 'L' brackets that mount the telescoping shaft to the truck and will extend about 20 inches from the brackets. They are made of stainless and have a 5 inch mirror attached. ...
