Re: WTB, Rear 88A platform bed crossmember

Thanks Kim, had to restrain myself from embossing the "Ford Truck" in it, as it would not have been like the original!

Re: WTB, Rear 88A platform bed crossmember

Thought I would give an update on the rear cross member - this should really be in the discussion forum but this is where it started. I started heating the old steel to stress relieve it but when it got hot, I could see cracks running in all directions and it just about wrapped itself inside out wit...

Re: Mirror advice

Thanks Neil, I think I will make a bracket to fit my top hinge, I am more interested in being able to see behind than judging points! I have a door pillar mount type that I can modify for the hinge.

Re: Mirror advice

Thanks Dave, that is certainly an option. I'd still like to hear from someone with one on the door pillar between hinges though, to see if it is in fact a nuisance!

Mirror advice

hi all, I'm trying to figure out the best option for the rear view mirror. My 28/29 truck has a D5 door post with the two holes for the mirror bracket between the upper and middle hinge points. According to Neil's excellent article on mirrors in the 2018 Double Aer, I need a 11 1/16" long mirror bra...

Re: Door panel fasteners

Yes, it was Snyders who said they only sold them as a set. I asked Snyders if they sold the door panels and they told me no!?

Re: Door panel fasteners

I forgot to mention they are $1 each so not cheap, and you cannot buy the nails separately - I asked!

Re: Door panel fasteners

Hi Neil,

I will post a clip photo when I get home tonight. My panels came from Cartouche, they were the only place I could find that did the 28/29 doors. The Snyder part number for the nails and sockets is A 46126-R. Photo from their website is below:

Re: Door panel fasteners

Thanks Kim, do you use the ringed nails like in the photo above, or the wire clips that come with the panels. I am wondering whether to take the wire clips off and replace with the nails and sockets from Snyders as per original.

Re: Door panel fasteners

Hi Kim,

Do the plastic ones hold OK? Where did you get them from?

Thanks

Re: Door panel fasteners

Thanks Neil, not sure what the solution is. The wire clips are too loose if you just push them into the holes. The only thing I can think off is to turn some brass inserts to reduce the hole diameter so the clips are tighter when they go in but there will be some trial and error to get the correct s...

Door panel fasteners

Hi,
Would anyone know of a source for the female door panel fasteners that mount in the door like in the pic below. I need about 25 of them but haven't been able to locate anyone that sells them.

Re: WTB, Rear 88A platform bed crossmember

Thanks Neil, yes, if I have no luck I will just have to get the heavy hammers and heating torch out. The worst thing will be to try and take the sag out of it as the flanges are quite light and wont take a lot of load from a hydraulic jack. And I would have to straighten it before I weld it up as th...
