Good question, pretty sure they can be installed either on top or on the bottom (I think I've done both) but as you say the correct position is on the bottom on a double A which would move the spindle up would it not? I don't think the spindle locking pin will allow the bearing to be installed eithe...

On my monitor that looks like Pegex Orange, Vermilion is a red.

The Paint & Finish Guide shows Rock Moss Green, Blue Rock Green and Black. After September 1930 the following colors were added
Phoenix Brown, Menelous Orange, Rubelite Red, Pegex Orange, Copra Drab, and Thorne Brown.

The parking light goes to the top. If you look in the channel on the reflector were the gasket goes it should say TOP.

I wouldn't pay over $50 for one. They are on Ebay all the time for over $150 but I have found three on Craigs List and at
swap meets for $40 to $50.

The one I have the top half of the ball is broken off but what is left of the bottom is round.
The picture on page 134 of the A.G. McMillan book is round also.
