Re: WTB: 88-A Platform Bed Stakes
Just a heads up - measure your stake pockets or if you have a good fitting stake because the pockets/stakes are narrower than "modern" stakes. So if you come across some loose ones at an auction or junkyard or someones garage - they may look identical to an AA stake but it will be wider. I...

Which hollow punch set?
Hello all, So i need to get a hollow punch set to punch holes in my body block pads and frame welt eventually. Considering i never needed them till now and cant see an immediate need later on the harbor freight variety is the right price. But they have 2 kinds: the standard hand style where you hit ...

Re: Body block rubber pad confusion
I think the cab should be built off the frame as a complete unit (as was done originally). While i agree - they did have some pretty stout fixtures to keep everything square that wont be easy to replicate. Also in your picture does anyone know what the "spark plug" looking things are stick...

Re: Body block rubber pad confusion
In my experience, vendor-sold pads without reinforcements, are of little value. They squash down when body bolts are tightened making body alignment impossible and the pad thickness is of little importance. Reinforced pads do not compress. Multiples can be used for body shimming. I would recommend ...

Re: Dual high endplay?
Just checked, it does have about 1/8 in play. Are you sure your using the correct u joint and have all the stuff in the right order in the torque tube/driveshaft? Also are you using float a motor mounts or factory? Since the dual high fits in the splined uhh cup it can move backwards too far as well...

Body block rubber pad confusion
EDIT THis is for a 29 closed cab. So i bought the catalog reproduction wood body block set and have coated in preservative. I have also bought the rubber pad set and have gotten a bit confused: The catalog rubber is about 1/8" thick and when placed in the middle body block groove it is flush wi...

Re: Dual high endplay?
End play as in if one were to grab the U joint and push and pull it parallel to the frame?
I dont remember any when i restored my "round case" 29. I can verify with a good round case dual high i have sitting in my shed tomorrow.

Re: 88-A Platform Bed Mounting
glad i could help - i really wonder how precise they originally put them or if there was some kinda jig to drill the pilot holes for the screws.
i got some of the other measurements of its nearby plates so measure before you go drilling int your board. hopefully it fits close enough.

Re: 88-A Platform Bed Mounting
alright im gonna try to be clear: when i say front hole i refer to the screw hole closest to the engine - rear hole is closest to taillight. the front hole of your plate in question is 12" to the center of the rear hole of the nearest plate as you go towards the front. - in otherwords your diag...

Re: worm drive drive shaft
I remove the rear most rivet. The housing at that point has a little bit larger diameter giving the replacement pin more room. I'd be reluctant to swap the bronze gear around as by this time the gears are pretty comfortable running where they are. to expand on this yes the rear pin, also the catalo...

Re: 88-A Platform Bed Mounting
Hmm I have my original boards that would show screw positions i can get you on Saturday. (already removed plates and wood is very weathered but screw holes will be present and obvious) mine would be on a march 29 platform setup. If you wanna eyeball it it looks like the front edge is lined up pretty...
