frame paint removal
I am about to prepare the frame on my '31 for repainting. Is it necessary to remove the existing paint to bare metal and start over? Or, can the prep be limited to removing loose paint and using a pre-paint wash? If the paint must be removed, what have others done to make this easier? I have the opt...

rear axle rebuilt procedure
I'm about to remove the rear axle and begin the rebuild for my '31. I'm searching for a sort of punch-list of the steps, preferably in order for dismantling, repair/replacement, and re-assembly. I have the Jim Schild book for AA's which includes a chapter on rear axle. I"m looking for something in a...

PTO shims and shaft speed
I will install a PTO that was purchased separately from the transmission. How does one know how many shims to install between the PTO case and the transmission? Also, this PTO will direct drive a vintage Deming water pump. I need to know the PTO RPM at low idle and full idle of the engine. A friend ...

seat springs
I need upper and lower seat springs for my '30 cab. A local seller has NOS springs for a '29 Coupe, and claims the springs will also fit a pickup, Phaeton, and Roadster.
Can anyone verify if these springs will fit a '30 pickup?

Differential substitutions for higher speed
I confess this is a rookie question. Has anyone found a substitute differential/axle that can replace the stock 30-31 differential/axle to increase the highway speed? And, do with without "extreme" modification of rear suspension, torque tube, etc. Or even better, is there a substitute for the diffe...

Hood and side panels for AA vs pickup
I need to buy a hood for my '31 AA. Because the radiator shell for an AA is longer from front to back than the shell for a '31 pickup, do I still buy a standard pickup hood to fit between the cab/fuel tank/cowling and the AA radiator shell?

sandblast a rolling chassis
I want to have as many parts as possible of my rolling chassis prepped and primed before winter. This would include the frame, suspension, rear end/torque tube, wishbone, and front end. There's a good sandblasting/paint shop near me and the easiest would be to roll the chassis on a trailer and take ...

Paint pattern for 1931
Does anyone know if Ford built AA's in '31 with custom paint jobs? In addition to the contrasting color of the fenders/running boards/rain skirts, would it be period correct if there was two tone colors on the hood/cowl/cab or accent colors for the trim? If the answer is yes, a reference to some pic...

Re: Log truck and trailer brakes
Thanks for the advice, gentlemen. I'm assuming that in the era of the Model A's and mechanical brakes, semi trailers simply did not have brake axles. Is this a fair assumption? Also, when choosing a chassis to build a log truck project (or any truck with a fifth wheel to pull a semi-trailer), would ...

Log truck and trailer brakes
I'm considering building a log truck, using a '31 AA cab/chassis/running gear. Before jumping off on this, I have some questions. What brake linkage system was used for semi-trailers in the 1930-31 era? And, what wheelbase should I use for the cab/chassis?

Re: WTB '31 steel top cab
Kim,
I found a vendor in CA that sells a drop in piece to make the cab a solid top. What did your father in law use to support it from inside? Did he use the wood ribs as if it were a canvas top?
