Re: Windshield, aluminum vs steel
Not sure if the original is able to withstand disassembly and reassembly. Most likely never spent a night indoors and it lived in an area with 50-60 inches of annual rainfall.

Windshield dissassembly and reassembly
I'm looking for a written procedure for disassembling the windshield frame for my 31 AA. It appears there are not enough exposed screw heads to take it apart to replace the glass, replace the hinge, and remove the sealant. I can't tell if some components of the windshield are welded or screwed toget...

Windshield, aluminum vs steel
I"m looking at my windshield and contemplating just buying a new one instead of risking the original one will reassemble with the new glass. I'm reading in Brattons and Snyders of a steel frame and an aluminum frame version. Does anyone have experience with using the aluminum frame as a replace...

Re: Top wood purpose in a solid cab
Thanks for the reply and the picture, Bob. Does anyone out there have details on how to build these upper braces? And, if anyone has pictures of the rest of the cab wood, please post them. I can get an idea of where to start when creating the wood pieces. Another question, did Ford install the wood ...

Door adjustments and painting sequence
I have my '31 82-B cab at the body shop for door restoration, glass installation, and then body filler and paint. The rusted out parts have been replaced. I read about how the doors are adjusted for fit after bolting on to the frame. As I read it, the hinges and doors are adjusted by bending/twistin...

Top wood purpose in a solid cab
I have modified the roof on my 82-B cab by welding in a solid top/visor instead of the fabric top and bolt on visor. Now I'm adding the wood so it can be painted and reassembled. My question is, "Do I need the top wood installed if the cab roof is solid?" What purpose would this wood serve...

Platform sills dimensions
I'm rebuilding a stakebed platform I bought separately (I think it came off a '31) and intend to mount it on a '31 frame. The sills on the purchased platform bed are 5 1/2" H x 3 1/2" W x 100' L. This contradicts the specs I'm finding throughout this discussion group. The factory specs cal...

Re: How to back off rear service brake
Bob,
I appreciate the help. To be really anal about this, is the adjusting wedge threaded with right hand threads on both sides? I'm assuming the wedge will eventually back all the way out(?)

Re: How to back off rear service brake
Thanks for the reply, Bob. How do I back out the adjusting wedge? I turn it either way, and when it clicks, I see the brake shoes expand and then snap back with the spring tension to the original place. What am I missing?

How to back off rear service brake
I have an extra rear axle for my '31 AA and pulled the brake drums off to see of they were better than the ones on the rear axle I'm restoring. They were not as good as my "restoring" drums, so I'm returning these drums back to the original axle. My challenge is getting the service brake s...

Rear spring seat pin removal
I'm rebuilding the rear springs in my '31 AA. New bushings and pins all around. I have removed the tapered keeper pin AA-5798 and now want to remove the spring seat pin AA-5799. This is the pin that connects the upper spring seat to the leaf spring. Is this seat pin AA-5799 a tapered pin? With the p...

Drive line upper grease fittings and roller bearing
I'm rebuilding the rear axle on my '31, including removal and cleaning of the torque tube and driveline. The roller bearing (A-4645) near the speedometer gear appears "sloppy" in my hand, with the rollers all rattling in the race. I have two questions for the group: 1) Is this slop in the ...

Thanks Bob. I had searched the Snyder's catalog and overlooked this one when it specified that it was for the 28-29 worm drive.

Drive shaft grease retainer source
Can someone lead me to a supplier of the drive shaft grease retainer #AA-4686? While we're at it, if I could find drive shaft roller bearing AA-4645-A I would replace mine while I'm in there. But, I can't find one of those, either.

rear wheel stud removal
I need to replace the wheel studs on the LR drum of my '31. I have the drum off the axle and have removed the nuts from the inside of the drum. Pounding on the studs from the inside isn't making any progress to get them out. Is it one of those "heat and beat" processes to remove them, or i...
