Re: transmission oil

There is a home brew out there on the web that includes melting bearing grease, STP and gear oil. Do a search. The original stuff smells like death warmed over. I also have bought a modern equiv a few years ago from a RI distributor in a 5 gallon pail.

Re: 1930 AA truck breaks

Replace the seals and put the brakes in an old BBQ grill (charcoal) to cook off the oil & grease. Cook off for a few hours and only if the pads are usable and thick enough.
This is an old trick which works every time.

I'd have to say NO on these terms. Leave the BS chat rooms on the other sites. Keep this one for real AA info.

Save the brakes

 FYI, An "old timer" told me once to take any oil soaked brakes and cook them in a "not used anymore" BBQ charcole grill. Start up the grill and cook off the oil. He said it would not hurt the parts. He also told me oil soaked brakes were very common.

Juice Brakes for the AA

The question of the day is , on the Ford AA, are there conversion parts to make the AA have “juice” brakes? I figure like the 1940 car brakes retro to a model a, there also must be a way to do this to an AA truck from a 40s 1.5 ton truck. Anyone know a resource for this?
Thanks, Alan....

Re: Wanted: AA front Axle Drums

30-31 Front Axle with wishbone and drums are easy to come by. I have several myself here in CT. But Budd wheels for 1930 are hard to find and expensive if you do. I need some too! Good luck to you.

paint link

Hunt around here: http://autocolorlibrary.com/acl_files/ford1930.html They list just about every color known. You will have to chose the year you want to look at. Also, the make up of the paint depends on who makes it. Hope this helps.....

30/31 closed cab seat ?

 My 30 AA truck did not come with the lower part of the seat springs. I found a couple of seats from a 30/31 pickup and they don't look correct. They both are about 5 inches each side narrower than the upper back rest. Is this correct? Just looks like there should be allot more seat  fo...

My 28 Fourdor had the same problem. Fuel is your next step to look at. My car firewall bowl was full of dirt/rust, then the screen in the carb was partially blocked. When the engine needed all it could get, not enough fuel was getting in which robbed the power. It got soooooo bad that the engine eve...

Sorry for this late entry. The book and all info I find says, " the gap is not critical" It is what it is. Just time the distributor just as if it had points.

I found lots of info on this in 1928-1931 Model A Ford Mechanics Handbook vol. II. It is the green book with many modern mods for the model A, some apply to the AAs.

low speed to high speed

I just checked the truck I will be restoring. It has the low speed rear end. You can cheat by pulling out the speedodometer gear in the drive shaft and check the #s. I also have two others with the high speed in them. Since I will "split the pumpkin" anyway, how bad of a job is it to chang...
