Re: Henry Ford did more than build cars and trucks.

Yeah, Henry had some strange ideas in his twilight years - but I'm not sure building thousands of B-24 Liberator bombers during WWII at Willow Run, or thousands of jeeps at the Rouge was a disgrace...

Re: How fast can the 28 Model AA go ?

Our early '30 AA has the slower gearset and practical best speed is about 25 - he'll do (trucks are male of course) 35 but only under protest and downhill. I tend to drive him at 20-22 - but he'll pull stumps down in granny gear. If yours is a '28 and has three forward speeds it probably has the wor...

Re: Some suppliers for the AA Trucks

S&S Auto I believe deals primarily in hardware for the Woody Wagons. I've dealt with them and found them very friendly and responsive. They are a bit of a mom and pop operation though, so don't expect the level of service you would get from a Snyder's.

Re: A 1930 AA history lesson?

Our understanding about our early 1930 AA Stake is that it was originally owned by a farmer outside of Burlington, IA and had a tanker body on it (pair of Maremount helper springs on the rear which added an additional ton to the capacity). The farm tankers usually had two compartments, one for water...

Re: tandom AA and an ambulance

We thoroughly enjoyed the MARC meet in French Lick. Incredible facilities, very helpful hotel staff, and lots of volunteers doing their best to keep things on track. Something like 1200 attendees and some 600ish cars. It was pretty hot and steamy most of the time, with heavy thunderstorms in the eve...

Re: chicken wire Help

Yep - black muslin, then chicken wire, then cotton batting, then the vinyl covering. Work from the center-line out stretching as you go. Don't be afraid to readjust the tacks when needed. Its a frustrating, but ultimately gratifying experience.

Re: tandom AA and an ambulance

These were at the MARC meet in French Lick last week, along with a very nice fire truck and an AA Mail Truck. I had never seen an ambulance before, very interesting to see a deluxe AA. There is also a nice AA semi with a tanker trailer that was at the meet last year and a TT semi with flatbed traile...

Good to see an "original" AA out and about. I've yet to see another AA at any show I've been to.

Re: headlights on an Early 30

Neil -- We're reasonably certain the headlights were on the truck originally. The truck was originally from Iowa and had a tanker body on it with a set of helper springs. We were told it was used to haul water and kerosine to the combines working in the fields, then the tanker was removed and the pl...

Re: headlights on an Early 30

We have a Feb. 1930 AA with the square cab, it has '29 style headlight buckets. Ford using up stocks at the various assembly plants probably accounts for the differences.

Re: Whats an AR Model A

Its an inaccurate term for the early '28 Model A's with the single brake system (left-hand brake handle). AR stems from the part number descriptions which really have nothing to do with designating the early Model A's, but the affiliation stuck.

Try Bert's Model A in Denver, CO as well. They have a Model A breaker yard and can supply almost any piece. Nice people too.

I agree, $9K for something that's not running or complete is over the top. I got my AA, complete, running, and presentable (needing some elbow grease) for $6K (of course that was 10yrs ago).

Re: 1931 AA Tandem rear axle

There were several companies that offered frame extensions and tag-along axles for the AA's. The "Truck" and "Accessories" books for the A/AA have several period advertizements in them. The ads tend to show stake and panel bodies.
