Re: Floor mat for a 1930 AA

There is no specific floormat for an AA of any year. Basically its the same floormat for any of the A's without carpeting; pickups, roadsters, standard tudors, phaetons. The ones from the vendors are essentially generic mats based on the Model A pattern, they all need trimed a bit and slots cut for ...

More recent picture of my AA. Its an early '30 (Feb) with 28/29 cab, '30 running gear, and stockbed with cut-down stakes.

Re: Need help identifying AA cab type

Its not a standard Ford cab. There were lots of firms who would take a Ford AA chassis and cowl and build the cab and bed to suit the owners needs. They're hard to find now because they were often made of wood or had alot of wood in them which deteriorated. Your friend's looks pretty nice.

If this works, its a picture of my early '30 AA with both the chrome and black shields.

Re: Radiator Shell

Oh yes, each of the major clubs have forums on their websites; Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA) and Model A Restorers Club (MARC). There's also AHOOGA (www.Ahooga.com) and Fordbarn (www.fordbarn.com). My personal preference is for Ahooga, but they're all good. Lots of good technical talk on all ...

Re: Original mirrors for AA's

I'd contact Bert's Model A in Denver, CO. He basically has a huge Model A/AA/T breaker yard with everything imaginable on his shelves. Also very nice people to deal with. Failing that, posting in the Parts Wanted with the Model A clubs Forums and publications, and trolling swap meets is where you'll...

Re: Radiator Shell

I had a repop shell on my early '30 AA ('29 style cab) for a number of years. The fit was OK, took a bit of adjusting but was workable. Technically, the AA's and other Ford commercial vehicles came with black painted radiator shells for all years. '28/'29 Model A cars came with nickel shells, '30/'3...

Re: Ford Model AA Step Frame

Ford actually offered a "Stand-drive Delivery" in '31. They are considered the rarest body style of all the AA's. Roger Kauffman who writes the technical articles for the Model A News has one. He wrote about it in the News quite a few years back.

Re: options for the Model AA

There's a great book available on the A and AA trucks that catalogs alot of the "options". Most were things like governors, grab rails, fender lights, and hoists of various kinds. There was a huge after-market industry around the Model T, Model A, and Model AA's and as they say, "some...

Re: newbie speed questions (31 AA 157" dually)

The Model A's are capable of 55-60, so I really doubt the differential in the AA is a limiting factor, and you could get higher speed gears for the AA which would boost the speed to the 45 range. That's quite a bit of weight for that 40 horse engine to move though, even empty. Question is why would ...

Not off a Model T I don't believe. Quite possibly from a Fordson Tractor.

Re: high speed gears

Comfortable speed for our stock AA is between 25 and 30 mph. Plenty fast for parades, Sunday drives, or occasional trips to the lumber yard - but if you want to keep up with other A's on tours, etc. you'll need the high-speed gears. 750 sterling sounds very high to me, that's $1233 at the current ex...

Re: removing the cab

Not sure why you need to remove the steering column, and that can be difficult in a closed cab. When I took the cab off my pickup and AA, it was a relatively simple matter (assuming all the ancillaries are disconnected first) of removing the floorboards, removing the body bolts and steering column c...

I've seen several, including a very nice semi-trailer tanker. I'll try to find some pix to attach when I'm home tomorrow.

Re: AA's in the Army

The AF Museum example is what was called a Hucks Starter truck. The framework supports a shaft which was attached to a fitting on the propellor spinner of an airplane. A power take-off from the engine spun the shaft thus spinning the propellor to start the engine. They were also mounted to TT trucks...
