Re: Newbie here....

Welcome Mike!! What a wonderful story about your friend, that's part of what makes this hobby so special.

I'm really anxious to see pictures of your truck, there aren't many open cab AA's out there - in fact I've never seen one.

Re: 31 AA chassis questions

The AA came on two wheelbases, 131" and 157". That refers to the distance between wheel centers, not the length of the chassis. The A chassis had a 103" wheelbase. The various numbers you might have seen refer to the body type, i.e., 188 was the stakebed. The AA chassis and running ge...

Re: Non AA, Pie's? Sure we have pie's.

I had always heard the faster drying time explanation for the "any color you want as long as its black" from 1913 to 1926, which made alot of sense. But at the T Centennial last year Trent Boggess, one of the primary T historians, had indicated that wasn't actually the reason, that it had ...

Re: New Tires and Rims for Dump Truck

I just went out and looked at mine, I fill to 55 lbs. The two front snap rings have about a 1/4 in. gap. The rear duals do not have a spacer and do sit pretty close together, in fact at the bottom where they are pressed against the ground they do touch. I have about 1/2 in. of threads on the inner n...

Re: opinion please

To find a numbers matching AA at this point is very unusual, most had a pretty tough life and have been through at least one engine. On the other hand, since most trucks don't have their original engine its not really expected per se. I'd probably try to keep the original block as it should add to t...

Re: aa speedster

There were such things. Ford's cabs came in both soft and "hard" top versions, and there are many pictures of soft-top AA's. I've never actually seen one restored that way, though there are many roadster pickups around. Wouldn't be that hard to do and would be pretty cool.

Re: Back to the Project

What kind of plane did you restore Russ? That AA could look very nice with some kind of Air Service logo on the door and parked next to it.

Re: restore or original

Personally, I'm in the "its your truck, you paid for it, you'll be investing the time and money, do what you want" category here. Having said that, I really hate to see a good original anything cut up to be turned into something else. Watching one of the hot-rod programs cut up a pristine ...

Re: Radiator

Our early '30 AA with a '28/'29 cab has a 3-row '28/'29 radiator. Its OK most of the time, but will overheat pulling up a steep hill and I usually have to replace a couple quarts after a drive.

Re: Radiator

Through most of AA production, the radiators were the same as for the A - short/broad style for the '28/'29 bodies and tall/narrow style for the '30/'31 bodies. In '31, maybe late '30, a heavier radiator with an additional row of cooling tubes was added - anybody that owns an earlier Model AA knows ...

Re: a couple bed questions.

I'm not a purist either, but I do like my cars to be reasonably accurate to a time, the correct "impression" as the re-enactors like to call it. We have a '30 A Town Sedan that I've added a WWII fender marker light to, and display a "C" gas ration card in the window of for a WWII...

Re: 5th wheel for an AA

I've seen an AA 5th wheel semi-trailer tanker and flatbed. Neither had trailer brakes. Also a TT 5th wheel flatbed at Richmond last year with no trailer brakes.

Not sure how you would work a mechanical brake setup on an articulated trailer - interesting engineering question.
