Re: leave it alone or restore

Personally, I like to see trucks in original condition. A great example of such a truck is Leiv's AA in Norway. I don't claim to be a purist, and I do like a restored truck as much as anyone, but sometimes a shiny truck with sparkling chrome is like a woman with a lot of makeup on, you just can't be...

Re: Hello from Norway!

Hello Leiv,

You have two very nice looking trucks. I am partial to unrestored trucks, so I am pleased to hear that you will maintain the original patina on your new AA. Congratulations on your find and good luck with it. Happy New Year, Steve

Re: 1930 Model AA- Shorten Has anyone done it?

Preacher Man Eddie, Don't forget that the torque tube is part of the suspension system. The torque tube attatches to that big crossmember for a reason, and the wear you find at the bell is because the system has been working. This is not to say that the truck won't function without it, but it would ...

Re: 1930 AA Doodlebug/Jitterbug

Hello Ben, I have been a Doodlebug fan for a very long time. I came across one in a barn near my home when I was about five years old, and I've had the "bug" ever since. That one is still in the same barn, too. For anyone unfamiliar with the term, a doodlebug is a home built tractor made o...

Re: Install wheel ?

With all due respect Neil, that tire can do a lot of damage regardless of the location of the ring, up or down. If the ring should come loose with your method it could easily force the tire up in your direction. Of course the proper way to inflate a split rim is in a tire cage with a remote control ...

Re: transmisson

Sam, I would agree with Richard, try to find another case. But I did weld ( actually brazed ) an AA transmission case once, and it worked out just fine. The truck was only used around the farm, and was just a toy not a show truck. I pre and post heated the case on a wood stove, and the only difficul...

Re: Books

Tony, I can only offer you my opinion, but I have yet to find a really good technical book on AA trucks. Of course you should have the original instruction and parts books that came with the truck. I like the later -32-37- parts books also for reference and interchangeability. The Model A /AA Truck ...

Re: Model AA Wheels

Tony,

AA wheels will fit on a 32 or 33 BB truck but not on a 34, as the 34 used a full floating rear axle which required a larger center hole and bolt pattern. Steve

Larry,

Yes, you should line up the hole with the grease fitting. Steve

Re: What modern wheels fit an AA?

There are no modern wheels that I know of that will fit an AA. Dodge Power Wagons up to the late sixties had a 5 bolt pattern that might bolt on, but they are for 16 in. tires and fairly wide also. If you are handy with a torch and a welder you could cut the center of a Ford wheel out (assuming that...

Looks very good. Seems like you have a pretty nice place to work, too. Is the bed new, or restored? Steve

Re: Water Pump Seating

You really want almost no end play or your seals will tend to leak as the shaft moves back and forth. If you do have too much end play you can weld on the end of the pump shaft. Bolt the pump on - with the gasket in place- and check your end play. If the shaft binds, just grind off some of your weld...

Re: Trans on ebay , what year ???

Ray,

I don't know what that trans is from, but I do know it is not from an AA, or a 32-34 BB 4cyl. or v-8, either. however, the internal parts might work. Steve

Re: 1930-1931 Wheels?

John,

I have one wheel of the type you need on my BB , in fact it's the nicest wheel on the truck. I would gladly trade it for a 31 style wheel, so I could put duals on my truck. I could actually use two wheels. I am in northeast PA. Steve
