Re: spring perch removal and axel problems
Looked up what the punch was, and I have that and tried using it, it was also problematic with respect to the muchrooming. So I decided to put a 2x4 between the perch and the punch and the punch just dug into the wood.

Re: spring perch removal and axel problems
An Air Chisel with a punch end works for me every time, after the perches have been soaked in some kind of good penetrating oil over night. I've only had to use heat on one tough one and removed dozens of them without heat. It is the rapid vibration from the air chisel that pulverizes the rust that...

Re: spring perch removal and axel problems
both my perches are notched from wear, where the shackle touched them. I'll post a pick of that later. I was gonna get a buddy of mine that has a mill to flatten them back out for me, but I might asa well get new ones now. I've been searching and trying to find out if I can use an A perch. I found t...

Re: spring perch removal and axel problems
I'm afraid it may be too late for the perch, its from a 31. I don't know why I can't get it through my thick skull to remember to put a nut on the end before I try to beat/press bolts out. I think I'm gonna have to get off my but and go get some oxy and acetylene bottles. I've used my propaane torch...

spring perch removal and axel problems
I have a srping perch thats stuck, I've been beating on it, lubing it up, and it started to mushroom. Its not too bad (nothing a good die couldn't take care of) so I decided to take apart the whole front axle so I could put it in my little 12 ton press from harbor freight. Welp I bent the press's cr...

Re: Front spring shackles
For what it's worth I recently replaced some extremely worn bushings in the rear suspension of my 31 AA, appeared to be brass clad/lined steel, does anyone know if that's what they used originally and if anything like it is available new? seems like they would wear better than solid brass or bronze...

WTB: 47-50 1 ton backing plates and shoes
I'm gonna try and do a hydraulic conversion on my 31AA 157" chassis.
If anyone has a line on backing plates for a 1947-50 1 ton, please let me know
Thanks
Scott

Re: Hydraulic Conversion
So I have been having some discussions with some guys over on FTE, this is what they said with respect to a 47 1 tonner "The rear drums were 14" on the tonner so the backing plates would be too. The only other thing you should check is the hub diameter and center hole size on the tonner wh...

Nreed has he setup I want too, been looking for a 55 gallon drum.
Do you let your current go through the drum or is that just your container.

Re: Windshield cleaning/de-rusting
I also like this method I use baking soda, cause we don't know what washing soda is down here. I also bought an 80 amp DC welder at harbor frieght for my power source. Doesn't matter how rusty it is, Clean off just a patch of rust only so that I can get good contact from the power source, then let i...

Sorry about the rudimentary drawing but don't know how to explain it.
