Re: assembly questions - April 1930 closed cab flatbed

If you get the "Model A passenger car and Model AA truck: engine-chassis manual", it will give you several pictures and diagrams of all aspects of the under hood wiring and plumbing for your truck. I bought mine from "Macs" but almost all the well known suppliers have it. Hope this helps.

treating top wood

Can anyone tell me how to treat the wood in the cab of my truck? All I've been able to find is that it should be treated before instillation but I can't find any place that tells what it should treated with. I understand that it is supposed to be painted the cab color and I don't want to put anythin...

Re: Windshield cleaning/de-rusting

I feel it's important to tell you that the article I mentioned on Stovebolt.com was published in a pdf file listed here: http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/rust/electrolysis.pdf It says on page 2 of the file that the use of stainless as an electrode will create hazardous material that is illegal to d...

Re: Windshield cleaning/de-rusting

Need to tell those of you wanting to try this that your container must be non conductive. In other words plastic or glass. You must not use stainless steel for your container or your electrode. It will put chrome in the water and create hazardous waste. Using washing soda lets you dispose of the wat...

Re: Windshield cleaning/de-rusting

Where can I get washing soda? John NNY You can get washing soda at almost any grocery store. Be sure it is Washing soda and not baking soda! About one tablespoon per gallon of water is all you need so a 3.00 dollar box will go a long way. I usually leave parts in my "cooker" for 48 hours and the pa...

Windshield cleaning/de-rusting

Need guidance on how to clean/de-rust the windshield frame from my truck. I don't want to sand blast it for fear that it will warp. I've had good luck using electrolytic de-rusting on several parts but none had enclosed channels like the windshield frame. Pictured is the 55 gallon drum and 110 gallo...

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

Neil: I really appreciate your time and trouble in responding to this situation. I should tell you that I changed the front cross member to the '31 after I read that the notch where the radiator sits had to be indented so the hood would match the cowl. I also changed the brake cross shaft to the '31...

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

Hello nreed, There is no such thing as a '29/'30 AA frame. It is either going to be a '29 AA frame or a '30 AA frame. Your additional pictures plus the frame ID should clear this up. But, I think it is going to be a '30 frame. The engine ID does not matter. The frame ID is the original engine ID an...

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

Hello nreed, You should post a picture showing the rear two cross members (i.e. #4 and #5) on your restored AA chassis. You have posted pictures of the #2 and #3 cross member (the front cross member is #1). This way the frame can be identified as a '29 or '30. Note that the '30/'31 frame has the se...

Re: turn signals on 29 AA

I bought this truck in '03 with the pictured turn signals already on it. Correct or not, this is the way someone did it.

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

You say the frame is "incorrect", whats wrong with it? Notice the expanded holes in the second cross member. Also the cross member above the third member is arched not straight across(not shown). I was sold this frame as a '31 and didn't know any different mainly because I was just getting started ...

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

The only way you can know for sure is to lift the cab & check the vin # on the frame , you have the deluxe double bumper , which is a fairley rare item and apears to be complete , the head lights and mirror bracket are not correct for 30 or 31 and most likely after market as the turn signels are al...

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

looks like a 30 from the headlights ,chrome bumper, 5hole smooth /rounded bud wheels (not reinforced ) and mirror bracket location I was wondering about the headlights because they have the extra little light on top. I thought they might be an aftermarket item added sometime later. I have a really ...

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

from what I see there it is a 1930 AA truck. my 2 cents I can't argue with you because I'm not up on the finer points of the differences between '30 and '31. It would be a big help to me if you could point out what makes it a '30 instead of a '31. Thanks for your help in advance. Here is another pi...

Re: Wishing I'd Known!

It looks presentable to me in my humble opinion. Tom H This truck is titled as a '31. The body is very straight and the engine runs. In fact we drove it onto the trailer when we got it. What I meant when I said I had the wrong frame is I already had a 29/30 frame in the shop restored with the engin...
