Re: 1929 fabric top

Nice job, T-Crate! Makes you wonder what their secret was at the factory back in the day.

Re: ammeter

You might need to polarize the generator. Same thing happened to me on my T-30 Ferguson Tractor. Similar 6 Volt system as the Model A. Drove me nuts for years. Never charged the battery, and the ammeter kept reading backwards. I had read on-line that I might need to polarize the generator to correct...

Re: Windshield frame final paint

Hey Chris, As I understand it... the body, hood, and windshield frames went through the paint booths apart, but at the same time for color accuracy, then assembled as a unit. Is that what you mean? I'm just glad Ford had photographers walking around the assembly plants for these photos! Mark P.

Re: Windshield frame final paint

Hey Neil, If you look closely, the order in the picture is a Coupe body, hood, windshield frame, followed by a Tudor body, hood, windshield frame, followed by (what could be) an 82B cab, hood, etc. The first windshield frame kind of blends into the shadow of the Tudor body, but you can definitely se...

Re: Windshield frame final paint

As you can see in this factory photo, the windshield frame went through the paint process, minus glass. You can see one behind the Coupe and in front of what looks like an 82B Cab. (from: "The Ford Model A - As Henry Built It" page 77)

Re: 6 volt vs 12 volt system

Growing up on a ranch and being around a lot of 6 volt systems, as long as they are kept up, they always start and run fine! Sometimes I can go a few months without starting my AA, and it fires right up! A good working starter, battery, and good connections are important. I have a 46 Willys Jeep tha...

Re: AA Headlight conduits

I always wondered about them too and have seen original ones as Fred stated, but don't recall what year truck they were on. From what I have seen, the majority of Ford factory photos clearly show the stainless headlight conduits on the 1930/31 AA's with the black radiator shells and headlight bucket...

Re: high speed rear axle

I have a stock high speed rear end in my 31 AA. But I also have 650x20 tires on my truck. It will cruise along about 45mph comfortably. Stock engine, points, etc.
