Re: Recent lucky finds

Spring shackle bushings will work too! I didn't have my parts book handy so I took a guess. I haven't started the rear end and springs yet. I'm still in the 'tear down' and 'what have I got my self into' stages.

Re: Trailer info. I'v found

I would think that a flexable conduit and cable assembly, fixed at both ends, would work also. I'm thinking something similar to the flexable cables found on bicycle brakes and shifters only much larger. And, 100% mechanical just like the brakes on the AA's. You could even use an AA frame and rear a...

Re: Recent lucky finds

I re-read the thread on woven brake shoes. Of course, I always read these threads AFTER I have already done something. E. Moore has some very good points that I didn't think about. The shoes may not be such a lucky find afterall.

Recent lucky finds

I found a Budd 5-hole wheel with lock ring at a swap meet. Light surface rust. I asked the seller much? . . . $20! . . . I pulled a $20 out of my wallet so fast it almost caught fire. NOS Ford Rear spring shackle bushings for the spring eyes (BB-5791). I bought all twelve for a whopping $15 total! N...

Re: 6 hole dish wheel info and 5 hole bud wheel info

A hard epoxy paint may be the way to go. I can imagine wheels and retainer rings getting scratched up through assembly and road use. Paint would be much easier to touch up than plating or powder coat. I have see retainer rim tools on Ebay from time to time. The tool looks like a three-legged spider ...

Re: 6 hole dish wheel info and 5 hole bud wheel info

Do you want to know what fits what and the year/model they fit? I can't answer with authority. I am curious about whether someone knows if powder coating will fill and cover all the pitting in these wheels? I was wonderng about having my wheels etched, then Zinc plated before some sort of coating l...

Re: New member, new restoration, stupid question.

First time I tried to to pull the wheels off a 1948 truck rear axle, the right side came with lots of PB Blaster, muscle, and a 6' cheater bar. The left side would not budge even with heat. After a couple of weeks trying, it occoured to me that the left side has left hand threads ~ Duhh!! Everything...

spindle and steering and pivot balls

The pivot balls on my spinde arms and steering arm are worn. I have seen the vendors selling replacement balls. The worn pivot ball is drilled out and the new ball is added. These are either welded or are threaded in place. Are the pivot balls the same size as the Model A balls? Is one method better...

Re: AA Transmision

Having opened a few, I found that the AA had a larger diameter clutch disc, and heavier springs in the pressure plate. I think the springs were marked with a dab of yellow paint for identification. Try contact "Bert's" in Denver, CO for parts and advice. Good Luck. Thats right. The clutch and press...

Re: front shackles

I ordered a pair of shackles for the front of my late 1930 AA from a popular supplier. The shackle to bushing fit was very sloppy even without the bushing being pressed in. The supplier told me the bushing would shrink when it was pressed in. BS, there was about .050 play between them. I am waiting ...
