Fascinating!
These were fantastic trucks in their day, and they still are.

It's finally spring!
Picked a nice spring day to take the truck to work. First time in 2013 and first time since I built the tail gate and have the hoist in full operation. I hope that everyone is getting some road time with their AA's now that the weather is nice.

Re: Old tires stuck on rims
I've done the jack method as well. Very effective. And I've driven over them, too. Less precise but effective and faster. Pounded them off if they weren't too bad. (And I've done everything from wheelbarrow tires to semi's.) As everyone will say, be very careful reinflating with a split ring. It abs...

Re: Clutch Repair
The engine only weighs 200 lbs. I've carried it in my arms. If you have some rope and a pulley you can do it. Now I disclaim any injuries that your attorney would blame me for, but with proper care you can get the engine out without going to extremes.
But you do what makes you comfortable.

Re: Old tires stuck on rims
If the tire is shot, I've taken a hack saw and cut through the tire radially. Some of the old ten plies that I had to remove were nearly inseparable from the wheel and so stiff that I would still be pounding on them today! Cutting them through from tread to bead made it a lot easier.

Re: What happened to my springs...
I would think you would want a grade 8 bolt. I don't know if the Model A parts catalogs have them or not. A hardware store should. It needs to be long enough to go through all the leaves with enough extra to get the nut on easily. Diameter should just fit through the hole. Measure up and go to the s...

This is a site with some good pictures, inside and out, of the 82A cab. Might help.

Re: What happened to my springs...
Ahh, I see that Neil did fill you in. Sorry I had skipped over that.
And yes, I know the radius rods and the bottom leaves won't allow much fore and aft of the rear axle, but very uneven roads and bottoming out will, especially if one wheel goes into a pothole while heavily loaded.

Re: What happened to my springs...
In case you still had the question, yes there is a bolt that goes all the way through the center of the leaves. Looks like yours was sheared and the axle may have shifted a bit, pulling the leaves assunder. Great that you've got a piece of family history! The engine in my truck came from my Mom's co...

Thanks for the feed back and stories.
5 tons! Wow! When I have loaded it it heavy, I plan my stops. I push with all I have and watch my distances.

Re: ton or ton and a half?
Hello, hello! Does anyone else use their AA trucks for heavy hauling? I also have a 3/4 ton pick up, a '67 Chevy C-20, but the heavy loads go on the dump truck. And Christmas trees. People notice when you get your Christmas tree in a 1928 AA Ford with steel spoke wheels. Ohhh man, I love trucks!

My oh my! Now that is not a factory paint job.
Oh well, at least he didn't chop the top. One can always repaint.

Re: Long time no see - lots of questions!
Welcome! My '28 has 16 leaves, if that helps. I am not the book expert. I know that Snyders, Mac, and Brattons sell books along with Model A/AA parts. The world wide web has pictures that can help and its free. And keep posting questions here. The answers may not always be fast but they are valuable.
