Later blocks had more stiffeners or braces cast in the block above the rear main.
Another difference is another hole for water circulation was added in the middle, with the head changed to match.
Also - this is not blocks - but there are 4 or 5 different types of oil pans.

Re: Gas Tank Strainer & Gas Gauge
If you belong to a Model A club, someone is sure to have the tools to remove the gas gauge that you can borrow. If you replace the float you will also need the seal kit. I once had a problem with the gauge arm rubbing on the strainer; it can happen. There are 2 types of strainers: one screws in and ...

Judging Standards say all '28-31 trucks used the same top material: "Coarse long-short grain artificial leather".

There are stethoscopes made for mechanics so you can localize where a noise is coming from. Your slapping noise could be a number of things.

Re: zerk grease fit replacement
My A's & AA's have original style grease fittings. I also use original grease guns made for those fittings. I do not have a problem using them. Any grease fitting will usually "spill" a little.

Re: 31 delux wire wheels
I have heard your story of the description being fiction many times before. A friend of mine almost assaulted a seller after he drove 1000 miles to get what was supposed to be a nice Model A and it turned out to be complete junk. I noticed in your photos that the bottom end of the fenders had a pile...

Re: 31 aa wheels
I agree on that price, keep in mind the AA wheels are dated as to what month they were made so identification is easy.
Good lock rings are not rusty and not stretched out so as not to fit very well. A badly fitting lock ring can be dangerous if it goes flying off the wheel when the tire is aired up.

Yes the key information of which state you are concerned with is missing from your question, and your profile is really missing a lot of information.

Re: 31 delux wire wheels
"If it is an early 30 how are the 28 wire wheels fitting on the 30 hubs?" If you would answer the question about the gas tank filler, or include it within the frame of your photos, it may be conclusive. In all respects other than the '28 wheels it appears to be made between Jan & June ...

Re: 31 delux wire wheels
Chris, notice that the wire wheel and disk wheel are reversed front to back on either side of the chassis. Very odd!
Can a disk wheel be bolted on a '28-9 AA drum? Or will a '28 wheel fit on a '30-31 drum? I've never tried it.

Re: 31 delux wire wheels
They look like regular 1928 wire wheels to me.
Look for the manufacturing date on the firewall.
What is the frame VIN?
Is the gas tank cap twist on or screw on?
Parted out it might be close to $700 value if the fuel tank is good.

Re: 1929 floorboards from Jan 2012 !!!!!
The main factory that Ford had to produce his wood products was located in Kingsford Michigan, on the border with Wisconsin. Poplar and maple are 2 of the most common types of trees around there (along with pine). It would make sense that poplar and maple were used for the car body frames and floors...
