Re: Ford AA anti brake rattle springs

Birdie, Ford used 6 different types of brake rod springs. The slotted type was only used for 5 months in 1928. The Model A parts dealers usually only sell 2 types (flat steel or wire type). See Judging Standards chapter 7 p. 8.

Re: Ford AA anti brake rattle springs

Birdie, just go here, you'll be glad you did:
http://www.mafca.com/pub_standards.html
As it says, this should be the FIRST book in every Model A (and AA) owner's library.
Timing is right to put it on your wish list to Santa.

Re: AA chassis on ebay

It's a '30-31 chassis, probably early '30 if the sheet metal was originally with it.
Too bad the dumb seller did not include the serial number.
Typical dumb ebay seller with missing information and wrong year.

Re: <<<<<1929 AA Title Needed>>>>>

Every state has different rules regarding vehicle titles. I have lived in IL and CA and there is a very big difference. Chris Haynes is giving you good advice for CA that will not work in Illinois. I brought a Model A with a screwed up title to to CA and just abandoned the old title and got a new on...

Re: Early AA truck U joint

ArtO, it does not matter what type of U-joint you had in your truck. ANY AA U-JOINT WILL FIT RIGHT IN YOUR '29 AA WITHOUT MODIFICATION. It should be easy to find another good used u-joint. I recently gave one away with a AA transmission I sold. This is the Discussion forum, I suggest you post a &quo...

Re: Early AA truck U joint

ArtO, I think Neil had a typo in his post about the Service Bulletin information on AA U-joint & driveshaft changes. That information is on p. 367 not 357. Note that your earlier style AA can use either the old or new style U-joint without modification.

Re: stuck distributor

You would still have to loosen the lock nut on the side of the head to turn that hot rod distributor. What is a dual point Mallory doing on a BB doodle bug with a '28 motor anyway? Just put an original Model A distributor on it and make things a lot simpler and more reliable. I'm sure you could get ...

Re: stuck distributor

Mutt, are you trying to turn the distributor body, like you do to adjust the timing on a more modern engine? A Model A or B distributor is not supposed to turn. The timing is adjusted by turning the cam that opens the points. There is a lock screw on the side of the head to keep the distributor in p...

Re: 185-A platform for lt30-E31 AA-157

Ray, the "wet" lumber at the lumber yards these days will not only warp as it dries, it will shrink. To do your project right you need to dry the wood before you fit it to your purpose. I suggest buying what you will need and clamp it together straight and tight until it has dried out. Som...

Re: AA steering wheel originality question

Sounds like someone changed the original steering column including steering wheel in your late '28 with a later style steering column. I have seen that before, in fact I used to own a late '28 which had that. The later steering systems were easier to steer. The horn buttons are not interchangeable.

Re: Budd Wheels, Spoke Wheels, Hubs, Change Out...

All AA Ford factory closed cab trucks had 3 door hinges and hinges at the front. Looks like you have a truck that may have been just a chassis sold to a custom body builder, that is with a body that only went as far back as the dash, except I think running boards and splash aprons were also included.

Re: Budd Wheels, Spoke Wheels, Hubs, Change Out...

gearling, the VIN can be helpful also. Does the serial # on the engine match the title? I don't suppose you have seen the serial number on the frame, that is the number you can rely on. Frame, engine & title numbers are supposed to match but oftentimes the engine was changed.

Re: WTB 28-29 steering wheel

1928-29 steering wheels were either keyed or splined to the shaft. You need to tell us which one you want.
Here is a real nice keyed wheel on ebay:
