Re: 28 AA worm drive rear castle nut washer
The axle nut washer was a special hardened washer to withstand the side thrust placed on it. A standard washer could possibly dish out, leaving the wheel hub get loose on the axle and work on the axle key. I read somewhere that they recommend to retighten the axle nuts at 500 miles to keep the hubs ...

No, worm gears were not available in a 5.14 ratio.
I'll check my stock Jeff, I may have an extra 5.14 ratio.

Re: for sale 1932 AA
Engine numbers starting with 5,000,000 to 5,062,386 had a prefix of "AB" for passenger cars and "AAB" for trucks. This lasted about four months, till about April 1932. Starting with engine number 5,062,387 the prefix was changed to "B" for passenger cars and "BB&qu...

Re: Rearend and brake questions
Hello Joe, I don't know where in Jersey you are, but I'm in Pennsylvania about an hour west of Phillipsburg right off of I-78. I probably could find you some good used steel drums. Usually front drums make the best candidates to reuse. I also have an old truck brake drum grinding machine that I can ...

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch
The trouble with the fuse in the starter to junction box wire, is that when a short happens and blows the fuse, the generator goes to full charge because of the short. This will blow all the light bulbs out that are in use, including your brake lights when you try to stop because the path back to th...

Re: AA express bed strips
I had ordered and paid for a set of these bedstrips but never received them. Last I heard they were having trouble with the ones that fit around the wheel wells. Did anyone else pay for a set of them and didn't receive them either?

Re: Coupling shaft assembly
Rickack, the 30-31 coupling shafts only used a u-joint assembly at the rear end where they attached to the torque tube driveshaft. These were a special joint that had a stop built in the splines so the joint would not slide back too far. At the front, the transmission mainshaft had a male gear insta...

Re: Front End Rebuild
Chris, make sure the brake shoe roller track that is riveted to the backing plate does not have any grooves worn in it. These should be replaced or welded up if they do. Also make sure the brake shoe roller pins do not have a flat spot worn on them. The head of the pins sit on the track and slide ba...

Re: Newbie AA
If you're not familiar with the Canadian AAC's you will find that there are a lot of differences than the US built AA's. Many parts do not interchange with the American trucks. These trucks had cable brakes, a open driveline (no torque tube), a different Timken rear than US models, often different w...

Re: Tires - what's right
I have some old tires that have both the high pressure size and the balloon size marked on the same tire. The 30X5 high pressure tire has 6.00X20 balloon size also marked on it and the 32X6 also has the 6.50X20 balloon size on it. I'll have to look for the pictures.

Re: 4 Speed Transmission Tower
Yes, there should be two interlock pins there too. Maybe they are still stuck in the tower housing. These are to keep the transmission from getting locked in two gears at once. Watch if you're switching parts around from different top covers. In February 1930 the length of the interlock pins were in...
