Correction: I did have to also swap out one of the brake rod levers with the doglegged lever from a '29 AA cross shaft.

I had to modify the stock brake shaft but made no other changes and it stops at least as good as the original shaft.

I don't have a high speed speedometer gear set but here's a drawing of where it installs on the end of the drive shaft and torque tube.

That could help a lot Nick, I can see how it could be a problem if you were missing this "oil washer dam" ( 2034 bearing retainer) and it might very well be the root of my issue. unfortunately the 3 speed is no longer on the bench but installed in the vehicle so I can't easily look for it....
