At some point in time Ford added a second grease fitting to the torque tube which is closer to the u-joint. This made it easier to get grease to the u-joint. There is a grease seal in the torque tube behind the drive shaft bearing. So, when adding grease, it should move forward through the bearing, ...

The stock coupling shaft for behind a 4-speed is the same for either the worm gear or bevel gear rear axles. The front support housing is a smaller diameter than the service replacement with a front u-joint (which is bolted together). The front of the stock coupling shaft has an internal gear instea...

If your turck happens to have the 1932 service replacement coupling shaft, then the coupling shaft can be removed without backing up the rear axle.

Okay, attached is a picture of the u-joint housing at the front end of the torque tube. The second pictures is of a coupling shaft with a '28 u-joint housing which would attach to the three speed. Both are the same as used on the A.

Hello Stakebed, If you have the three speed transmission and Ford dual high, then remove the outer universal housing (clam shells) from the rear of the three speed transmission. This allows the engine, clutch housing, and transmission to be removed as one unit. The u-joint between the three speed an...

All of the AA's were rated at 1-1/2 ton. For the AA131-1/2" wheel base, the platform for '28 through Feb. 1931 was 97-1/2" long and after Feb. 1931 the length was increased to 102" long. For the AA157" wheel base, the platform was 132" long. It might be better to have an AA1...

Unlike modern day vehicles, it is not a good idea to tighten the fan belt very tight. I tighten my belt only enough to get the generator to spin. If you tighten the belt like modern day vehicles, the water pump will soon be worn out and leak!

Hello s147881, An excellent hub cap (suitable for plating with no work) should be worth up to $100. If I were buying wheels, I would want the tires removed so I could see what the inside of the rims look like. They could be rusted so thin that they are not worth much. I would be able to see the insi...

Hello toolhawk,
The engine/frame number is for October 1929. So your truck is an Oct-Dec 1929.

Oct-29 2,396,933 2,571,781 174,849
Nov-29 2,571,782 2,678,140 106,359
Dec-29 2,678,141 2,742,695 64,555

I reduced the size on one of your pictures and put it below.

Hello Stakebed, The platform body on your truck looks to be in good condition and has the original mounting hardware. The truck is most likely mid 1929 since it has the push button emergency brake handle in front of the shift lever. The rear fenders were a production option until about mid 1929. The...

Hello Toolhawk, The engine number is for October 1929. This is the assembly date of the engine. So, your truck is an October 1929 to very early 1930. This is because there were more engines built than vehicles. It is most likely that the truck is November to early December 1929. The makeup of the re...
