Re: Tires

Hello Neil & Others, I have a 1931 Budd Wheel Catalog that has load and inflation pressures for various tire sizes. Commercial vehicles during this period began using "high pressure tires" which rode better than the previous solid rubber ones. As tire construction advanced, ballon tire...

Re: AA Truck Wheels

The one stack of 5 nice Budd wheels with lock rings I saw at Hershey was priced at $2,000. I just walked away shaking my head. Keith

Re: moving on to breaks.

Sir, there are a lot of things that have to be checked when you're working on these trucks with mechanical brakes. I'll start with a few. Check the brake cross-shaft where all the brake rods attach to under the middle of the truck. This shaft should just turn in the bushings, not jump around. Check ...

Re: AA under drive

Matt, Not all modern gear oils are compatible with yellow metals used in older gearboxes and worm-drives. Many Model A parts supplies sell what they label as 600W which may be OK for the cars, but you have to make sure what they are selling you will not harm the brass and bronze in your trucks gearb...

Re: Free to a good home

Sir, if you still have the used tires, I would be interested in them. I'm only about an hour north of the Harrisburg area and could pick them up.

Thanks, Keith

Re: AAC Hub Caps

Hello Rob, I have a '29 AAC with the wood spoke wheels. Sure could use some hubcaps for it. Not familiar with the exchange rate to covert your dollars to US dollars though. My truck has the Brandtford cab and grain body.

Re: dual high paint color?

I checked six dual-high trans I have, one in a 20,000 mile original truck, and the only color I found on any of them was black. I can't believe any manufacturer would paint the inside of a gear case knowing the paint could possibly loosen and go through the bearings and such. My guess the paint was ...

Re: Dump bed hoist color

Matt, I'd say that since dump bodies were supplied by aftermarket companies they probably could be painted any way the customer wanted. I painted my Anthony dump body to match the cab color, but the subframe and frame mounted mechanicals black. A note on your earlier post about your Wood body. Accor...

Re: AA Trivia

Just wanted to add some more information on the 1932 Ford built trucks. According to George DeAngelis and Edward Francis book, The Early Ford V8, the Model "B" engine numbers started on November 29, 1931 with number 5,000,000. The 4-cylinder cars used a "AB" prefix to the number ...

Hershey 2018

Just a note to those guys that usually stop by my spaces at Hershey to say hi. Although the spaces in the Chocolate field are still in my name, I really moved to the Green field at spaces GBC 32,33,34 where I have a little more room. If I'm not there I'm probably out shopping. My phone number is on ...

Re: Erie wheels

Hello Rick, I'm also looking for some wedges for my Erie Wheels. I was going to check with a foundry I used before about casting me some new ones. Mine don't have the "Erie" name on them though and may be about 1/4" shorter than the one you have pictured. On the back side of the wedge...

Re: Driveshaft bearing

If you check the August 1929 Service Bulletins, it describes the spline change on the driveshaft and the different u-joint that is needed. The new splines are shallower than the old splines and are squared at the bottom of the grooves instead of being rounded. The old style driveshafts can be used w...

Re: How to install a WARFORD in a 28 AA

The Warford made to use behind a 3-speed has a six spline input shaft. These used the standard u-joint to connect the two. The one for use behind the four speed has a ten spline input shaft, a special adapting gear to fit over it, a special coupling to fit the outer spline of the adapting gear that ...

Re: How to install a WARFORD in a 28 AA

First off, there were different input spline sizes between a '28-'29 Warford and a '30-'31 Warford. The '28-'29 Warford was made to use behind a 3-speed. The coupling shaft was just removed and the Warford installed using the original U-joint. Since the four-speed transmission is a little longer and...
