Re: California registration rule

FYI Not all AAA clubs or offices are created equal. Most AAA offices will do the basic DMV renewals and registrations changes but not old registrations and the verifying VIN numbers, they will refer you to a lien service or contractor.

Re: Looking for express skid strips

The five center strips are basically the same as used on a flat bed except for the length and they have "rolled over" end at the rear where it butts up against the rear retainer, AA-89175. The two outside retainer strips, AA-89176 and AA-89177 are the problem. They have a right angle bend ...

Re: Tow truck is com ring together but I need help

That Sasgen is a pretty unique unit in that the boom will swing out to the side. There aren't too many of those still around. The body is most likely was originally off of a mid 30's or later truck. Most of the trucks of the AA vintage had the service car style bodies, cut down car bodies, simple pi...

Re: Parts parts and parts for sale

I believe the 18 leaf spring set up was a late 29 option and the u-bolts did have two cotter key holes. Probably so they could be used with the 12 or 18 leaf springs. Its what is under my 29

Re: Tow truck is com ring together but I need help

As for mounting old wreckers: First of all you don't want a lot of overhang behind the rear axle so the bed and sometimes the frame were usually shortened up to almost the tires. As for location, a lot of guys will just set the wrecker down on the wood bed where it looks ok and bolt it down. It may ...

Re: Tow truck is com ring together but I need help

FYI tow truck 101 Early tow trucks usually had the cranes mounted behind the rear axle because the common method of towing was originally was to just wrap chains around the frame horns/bumper brackets of the car you wanted to tow and lift it . The car was often free to swing around and you didn't wa...

Re: Wanted: PTO handle

After a fair number of old tow trucks, ranch trucks and 4x4's the PTO handle on older trucks was not a thing of beauty. Most of them were simply a piece 1/4 or 3/8" x 1 1/4" flat stock rounded off at the top. if you wanted to be fancy you ground it down and either threaded a ball onto it, ...

Re: What is the best way to change the Front Cross Member?

I just went through this little exercise. Whether its the best way or not I don't know, but here is what worked for me. I already had the front sheet metal and radiator off of the truck. This was the process, by the numbers, if I remember correctly: 1 With the truck on the ground, I put a block of w...

Re: 1930 Service Body W/Weaver Crane For Sale

I would be hesitant to put a price on this truck without more pictures etc particularly of the back of the truck/toolbox to see what may have been done. Another point with a tow truck is what towing equipment, other than the crane, is still with it. Usually with a Weaver, the snatch block, crank and...

Re: 1930 Service Body W/Weaver Crane For Sale

My guess is that is that this is either the short service bed or more likely it was shortened up/repaired for a towing application. The typical tow service bed had the three stanchion side rails that wrapped around the back of the bed while the longer bed had four. The stanchion pipe on this truck h...
