Re: AA front aprings
The parts price list shows it as an 18 leaf spring. It would not be the same as any A's.

Tim
The rear axle on mine measures 61".
That is measured with the wheels on so could be off a fraction of an inch but should be very close.

I thought 30 and 31 used the same shell????Reds34 wrote:It has a '31 radiator shell. The two piece splash apron could be a carry over from '30 to get rid of the '30 stock in '31 ( just my $.02). Another good way to get info on these trucks is to go to truck/car shows and join local club(s)Red

Re: A 1930 AA history lesson?
Drew Actually this is the first. I found the other looking for doors for this one. I know none of the history of the truck but there is always a story. I found it on E-Bay and it was only 100 mi. or so away so why not. The price was right I thought. The man I bought it from is a spray plane pilot an...

Re: A 1930 AA history lesson?
Rem: Your AA does look remarkably straight. I'd just drive it like it is. She's got character! -- Drew That is the plan. I took it to it's first (and probably only) show the other day and got 3rd in it's class. I have another AA that was not in near as good of condition that I am trying to restore....

Re: A 1930 AA history lesson?
The story that came with my AA was that it started out new on a farm in Ks. where it stayed in the same family until the fellow I bought it from purchaesd it and pulled it out of the barn just a few months before I bought it from him. From ther looks of the fenders there must not have been any trees...

Re: Help Identify this Truck?
Look at how the engine is mounted in the frame.
It appears to use the A rear mounts.
Do they fit the frame like it was a factory install or like a blacksmith job.
No offense meant to blacksmiths.

Re: Brake drum removal
If you use Russ's method do it with the wheel mounted and setting on the ground while the opposite side is jacked up off the ground and have the nut on the axle loosley.
This sounds wrong but it will hold the hub stationary while allowing the axle to move freely through it.

Re: 31 front spring tie bolt, where to get one?
I agree with Neil on all the above plus the bolts are not hard bolts.
They are realatively soft and are only used to hold the spring leaves together and in alignment before installation.
Once installed the spring clamps hold everything in place.
I see no problem with using hard bolts though.

I'm sure most parts stores have or can get them also.
Most larger cities have a spring shop or truck shop that would have them also.

Re: 31 front spring tie bolt, where to get one?
The NAPA store here has spring bolts in different diameters. All more than ling enough. Just cut off the excess after assembly.
