Re: Rear fenders

I have a couple coupe fenders. Haven’t gotten to them yet but looks like I can make them work.

Re: rear wheel stud removal

I removed studs from six rear drums recently. On a firm backup surface with heavy hammer and brass drift they all came out without too much problem. I loosen nuts and leave them on till stud starts to move so as not to mushroom them. Sounds like you might have swelled them up if you directly impacte...

Re: Looking for late '31 engine crank (without lug socket on end)

The hand crank for starting doubles as lug wrench for the car. The truck takes a much larger lug nut on Budd wheels so crank was supplied without the lug nut socket and a separate wrench supplied that fit both the square and hex needed on truck wheels.

Re: emergency brake lever bushing replacement

Ideally you should be able to remove cotter pin, knock out pin in coupling and slide lever shaft and bushings out together; but on most of the ones I have disassembled the shaft was seized in the coupling and required heat and force. I completely rebuilt my axle so I had the advantage of disassembli...

Re: AA wheels

It would be doable. I did something similar. I took a good rim off a wheel that had a busted center and a good center off a wheel with a rusted out rim. I cut rivets out and put two best parts together and riveted back with new 9/32” rivets. I found out that the holes didn’t line up so I welded up a...

Re: 1930 Ford AA Brake Question

I recently did brakes on mine. I re-lined my own shoes. I bought woven linings from Snyder’s and the tool to set the hollow rivets. I made my own countersink drill to drill linings and a jig to hold shoes while I set rivets. I picked the best four out ten drums and didn’t turn them. Some were alread...

Re: Help with tires

Actually, Ford specified 32x6 for the 1930-1932 AA-chassis when dual wheels were not used. I don't agree that a 6.50x20 is actually a 32x6. Tire manufactures put substitute tire sizes on tires. Perhaps, but I would suppose 6.50-20 would be as close as you can come today to 32x6. I scrapped some old...

Re: Help with tires

Ford specified 6.00-20s all way around for duals and 6.50s on rear only for singles. I intend to run singles on mine. Looking for a good used 6.50-20 for a spare.

Re: rear axle of the car Ford AA 1931

I think he's looking for a product like "speedi sleeves" that is a repair sleeve that goes over an existing race. I know that they make them for Dana and Sterling axles. You might be able to cross reference something that will work? You might be better off welding the races and machining ...

Re: rear axle of the car Ford AA 1931

The only bushings I know of in a AA rear axle would be bearing races in hubs. These were pressed in hubs and riveted. I don’t think they were ever offered as a separate service part. Late production eliminates them entirely and the bearing races are machined in the hub.

I would send a photo but can’t load them here. I forged a tool, hardened and tempered it, then ground edge to cut oil grooves.
