Re: Inside the Venturi

Thanks Brady
I have it pretty smooth inside but can not be certain the small ID is exactly where it was. I bet it's going to work fine.

Inside the Venturi

The venture in the carb I’m working on refuses to budge and I do not want to destroy the upper body. I’ve decided to leave it in place and use it. Question: How smooth does the inside of the venture be?

Re: Venturi Removal

No movement and the vinegar only discolored both parts and stunk up the place. I will try heating the body and putting dry ice inside the venturi and see if both metals go in different directions.

Re: Venturi Removal

From what I've read, the venture is made of pot metal and should be soft. I do have a new one.
I will try the vinegar bath tonight before trying the heat.

Re: Venturi Removal

I see the tool but nobody can show me how to use it.
I will try heating up the parts and dunking in cold water when time permits.

Venturi Removal

It seems to be one thing after another rebuilding 2 carbs and learning more as I go.
One of my carbs has a frozen venturi in the top half. It will not budge.
I have seen the home made venturi extraction tools but nobody shows how it works.
I may need a press.

Re: More Carb Work

I ordered and received a complete carb rebuild kit to work with.
In process now while I'm at work today.

Re: More Carb Work

Bob
Thanks for the site. I did kinda see both main and cap jets have convex tips.
Now I'm looking at the 2 compersator jets I have. One with small opening (.03543") and one with a larger opening (.0374") and trying to decide which to use.

More Carb Work

OK, after reading and making copies from ModelABasics.com, ModelA.org and looking at as much as possible, I still have questions. The pictures and verbage only go so far in deciding jet tip shapes. ModelA.org is the only place I found anything on tips. This is what it says: Cap Jet Jet needs to have...

Re: Carb Work

Now that's a good carb site. It does show exactly what I'm asking.
Thank you,

Carb Work

I have 2 carbs ready to go back together. I read where Les Andrews says the cap jet and main jet nozzels should be inside the venturi at its smallest diameter. Why are the cap jets so long when purchased? Should I shorten the cap jet to the same length as the main jet so it will be lower in the vent...

Condenser Testing

Is ther any way I can test a condenser other than installing in my truck?
I located many I had in a parts box, but don't know if they are used or new.
Thanx,
Marty

Gear Oil

I read (again) that the transmission needs the 600 gear oil to keep it quiet. And I read that someone suggested adding STP to the 80w gear oil. Any thoughts on that?
