Re: California registration rule

HI, Some Officers know where the numbers are and some do not. I bring the vehicle into the CHP with the body blocked up and a cut out in the splash apron area exposing the frame number. The problem with trying to show "another" number is that you never know what the Officer knows and I cer...

Re: California registration rule

Well, I pieced this particular roadster pickup entirely from swap meet parts, the frame number was not legible. I had a bill of sale of each item from most everyone that I bought stuff from, applied for registration from DMV, and then I had to take it to the CHP for inspection of the number and they...

Parts vehicles in California - Codes

I got to scanning the California Vehicle Code and came up with this: 5051 (for those of us 5150s)

Re: California registration rule

Hi, Since I have been drawing conclusions based upon WORDING in an area where logic has no place, the CVC, I decided to make a visit of the local branch CHP offices, just four miles from me. I placed my registration and a copy of the rule (picture attached) on top of the counter top and asked the Of...

Re: California registration rule

Hi Bob, What legal written type rules are not confusing? I see the rule as an EXEMPTION, the same as on CALTRANS dumptrucks, county and city trucks, etc. They can still use the trucks in what they were designed to do but have an exemption on paying the weight fees (or any fee at all). The (b) part s...

California registration rule

Hi, for those of you living in California wishing to reduce your yearly registration fees and still carry items in the bed, attached is a picture of the 2014 version of the California Vehicle Code. You end up paying passenger car fees and still have the full use of your truck. This rule is way bette...

radiator backflushing apparatus

I spotted a device like this one at an auto mechanics business, so I copied one for myself. The original had a cone to push into the lower hose of the radiator, but I used a 1" to 1/2" bell reducer to insert into the lower hose and I placed a 45 elbow to angle it for easier connection. It ...

Re: intermediate driveshaft comparison

Hi, I have these shafts and x-joints allotted for various projects at this time. I am just placing pictures of things that I have been confused on in the past in order to clarify things for others. I am also posting prices that I pay for things at swap meets so people get an idea of what they go for...

intermediate driveshaft comparison

Attached are pictures of two driveshafts that I bought this morning at a small local swap meet,$10 apiece. One never knows what he will find at a swap meet! The top one is a 28-29 shaft for the three speed and the lower one is a 30-31 driveshaft for short wheelbase truck for the four speed. Anyone h...

Re: What is the curb weight of my new truck?

Hi, the " Model A/AA Ford Truck Owner" book says on page 66 that a closed cab stakebed truck with dual wheels weighs 3,837# with the racks. It will weigh less without the racks and with single rear wheels if you need to weigh it for licencing. I personally had one weighed last month withou...

Re: 4 speed floor mat

Hi, attached is a picture of a small Model A pickup with a 4 speed that I put together several years ago. At that time I did not know what to do with the shifter floor plate so I did not install one. This is a mat with the holes modified to fit the levers. Also there is insulation underneath the mat...

Three common Ford heads

Attached is a photo of the three common heads you find on Model As. The top one is the stock 4.2 to 1 Model A head with 40 HP. The center one is the stock 4.9 to 1 model B head (with the "C" on top) and with the B grind cam and B carb you get 50 HP. The bottom one is the police Model A hea...

Re: 4 speed floor mat

Those pedals! I extended and dog legged them around the column. On this truck I installed regular Model A axles (3.78 to 1 ratio) and extended the driveshaft, installed the 28 underdrive (small pedals on the floor) with 40s hydraulic brakes on the axles. The extended brake pedals help apply proper l...
