Walking for days at Hershey 2019. Ran across a few AA truck wheels. The condition is very good but not Great, the prices are astronomical!..$350 each ...as Steve McQeen said in his last words in the movie the Sand Pebbles, “What the Hell Happened?”

Re: Distributor

Yes, it is a pin that you can drive out with a hammer and a drift punch. It’s a .125 diameter pin. Support the collar with two wooden popsicle sticks sitting on a bench vise with a slight gap under the pin and drive it out. Grind or file the drift punch side flush with the collar to ensure you are n...

Re: rear axle rebuilt procedure

I hope that you both take lots of pictures and lots of notes on what works and what does not. I will most likely need your knowledge when I do mine.

1931 Commercial Cowl

I am interested in finding a real nice 1931 commercial cowl. This will have bolt holes to fasten to a flat bulkhead/firewall for mounting non-Ford bodies, mail trucks, school buses, depot hacks, etc.

Re: AA mail truck or other closed wood bodies

Thank you for posting this amazing photograph. This is the only photograph that I have seen with a 1929- early 1930 nose. This “box” is either sitting on the same frame part number that I own or is this a 157 inch wheel base truck? Where did you learn about the 5 panel vs a 4 panel? I have gone back...

Re: AA mail truck or other closed wood bodies

Hello Bud, Neil, and others interested in this thread: I am joining the Postal As group and I have learned that AA mail truck drawings are available through that club. They also have drawings for the “box” for the A car frame. It seems that the A car drawings are also needed to get a comprehensive u...

Re: The Right Frame for a Mail Truck

Neil, as always, You're the Best! You did answer my question. Your thinking is that if I choose to use my frame, although it is 10 inches shorter than the ideal, you believe it would still accept the 1931 AA mail truck body. I understand that this would not be historically correct. All of the other ...

The Right Frame for a Mail Truck

(I am hoping that Neil can help with this question) I have a 1930 Ford AA truck frame that is in excellent shape. Based upon Neil's work, it is a AA-5005-B-d1. It measures 171-5/16 long. The truck had an 82-A cab with a 1930 style fuel cap. The fuel tank and the fire wall are in good shape. The radi...

Re: AA mail truck or other closed wood bodies

How much do you want for a set of drawings? Where did you obtain them?

Re: AA mail truck or other closed wood bodies

I met a guy at the Hershey 2018 meet that said he has copies of the blueprints for Model A Ford mail truck bodies, based upon the car chassis. I am trying to connect with him to obtain those as I believe the front 2/3rds would be exactly the same for the AA chassis. The straight part must just be lo...

AA mail truck or other closed wood bodies

As good sheet metal continues to become hard to find, I am considering building a period correct wood body for my AA truck. Does anyone know if AA mail truck body blue prints are available? Does anyone have period blueprints for wood closed bodies for a 131 wb AA truck?

BB-7063, 4-speed pilot bearing spacer

I am hoping that the club's 4-speed overhaul expert or historian can explain to me why Ford made this particular spacer out of round wire instead of as a machined part with a cross-section that has parallel surfaces or as a "D" shaped spacer made from slightly harder material or perhaps be...

Re: Model A Days at Gilmore Model A Museum

I recently went to the huge swap meet in Hershey, PA. I met a guy that was involved with the Gilmore that convinced me that it was worth visiting. After reading this post combined with the photographs, I definitely want to go.

Re: Differential substitutions for higher speed

It would take some research to find the right custom gear company to make brand new ring and pinion sets, but it's not impossible. As discussed, the Ford AA high speed ratio is 5:14 to 1 , (7 teeth on the pinion, 36 teeth on the ring gear). A custom gear manufacturer could copy the bearing diameters...

Re: GREAT SOURCE FOR VINTAGE BEARINGS

South Shore Bearing is local to me. I have bought bearings there for more than 30 years. Most of my AA truck bearings were purchased from SSB. Steve recently helped me with new bearings for AA four speed transmissions. He knows his stuff and it’s a great place.
