The lighting is poor and details are hard to see. I zoomed in on the rear wheels and could see a date of 11-30. These are 30-31 wheels (see the location of the vent holes. The 31-33 wheels have the vent hole move close to the rim (in addition to the reinforcement rib stamping). Attached is a closer ...

Matt, I don't know what the color is. But, it is a light color. As can be seen the cargo body is painted the same as the cab. I also noticed that the cargo mounting bracket at the front of the sill is body color. So, the platform must have been completely assembled before painting. The u-bolts appea...

Here is a picture showing the top rear corner. The side stake pocket assembly consists of 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" angle with stake pockets riveted to the side and a rail riveted to the stake pockets. Between pockets, there are rivets through the rail and angle with a round spacer (not shown in the...

This question is asked quite a lot. I don't know that Ford ever specified how much. The 4-speed should be filled up until it reaches the fill plug. When the oil starts of run out at the fill plug, then enough has been put in.

Let us know how much you end up putting in from an empty transmission.

1930 AA157 Platform 185-A

I am in the process of researching the 1930 AA157 platform 185-A for an article to go into the 2008 club newsletter. Attached is a Ford archive picture of the 1930 long wheel base stake truck. The stake body is the 185-A platform and the 186-A stake racks. The platform is a very different constructi...

I think it would be much better to install any overdrive in to the coupling shaft area. It just seem that there would be less work and the speedometer gears would still be correct.

Here are a couple of parts pictures provided by Bud Valerius. I don't see that it shows the housing grease retainer. Bud, please provide information about these pictures. Where did they come from?

The earliest 1930 Ford Parts Price List I have is March 1, 1930. It shows AA-4245-D - Housing grease retainer assy. (2 per truck). As far as I know, these are the only seals for the rear axles/housings.

AA383??79 is the original engine number for the truck. This is an August 1930 engine. However, your turck was most likely assembled in September or October. By the end of 1930, Ford had built 215,556 more engines than vehicles. So, there was a two to three month excess of engines. Normally a cab and...

Frame welt goes between the front fender and that portion of the splash apron which is on the frame. There is not frame weld between the frame and platform. Note that in the picture, I ran the welt to the hinge pillar bracket. I also put welt on both the hood shelf brackets the hing pillar brackets ...

Hello John,
I would think that a pto should be worth $50 to $75.

Many of Ford's dump trucks had the hoists pto driven.

I have never heard of using a pto to get a overdrive. I am sure there are other uses for the pto

The first AA worm drive rear axles have TT markings on them. I am not sure when this was changed. A4067453 is an A engine number. So, the engine is not original. But, this is not uncommon. When an AA engine was changed, an A engine was usually used. I don't know what "1C74517" is. For the ...
