Re: AA truck Ride
Have you dissembled your springs, cleaned them up and lubricated them? They are plenty stiff and every little bit helps. Having a soft seat is a plus too.

Re: Compression Test
You would need to have the head off to look at the shape of the domes in the head.

Re: Compression Test
75 on all for would be excellent compression. Stock heads usually give up to around 65 lbs compression. Is this a high compression head?
The main thing even if compression on the lower side is to have all 4 cylinders to have readings that are pretty close to each other.

Re: Engine Assessment Questions
Sounds to me like you get a good bit of satisfaction by working on mechanical things. At the very least you need to pull the pan, clean it, check the oil pump, remove the valve cover and clean out the valve chamber. While the pan is off you should also check the bearing clearances on the rods and th...

Re: AA Truck Wheels
Several years ago I bought a couple of wheels from a gent a few states away. He put duct tape around the wheel where the flap would normally be and wrote the addresses on the tape. Sent it USPS and it cost less than $30 per wheel. Prices have gone up since then but if USPS still allows that it might...

Re: Two Bulb Headlights
For turn signals the vendors sell some that fit in between the two front bumper bars. They are bright shiny chrome looking. I painted mine flat black. They work very well. I used contact cement to attach the wires leading up to them to the under side of each of the bumper support arms. Attached like...

Re: Headlights and Horn In-op
The good news is,,,, you don't have to take much apart !!! You made me laugh out loud on that one. Looks like you got a "basket case" that could have very good bones. Having no rust on the cab would be a definite plus. Pictures don't show any rust but the areas that are usually rust...

Re: moving on to breaks.
Lots of things to do to get brakes working as they should. This past winter I installed a set of floaters on a Model A pickup. It was the first time I had worked with the floaters and they drove me bonkers for a while for a couple of reasons. The main one was I was asked to step into a brake project...

Re: Headlights and Horn In-op
Well 30 mph is pretty much cruising speed in the AA trucks with the worm drive rear end. Now your lugging down to 15 mph on hills is a bit troubling. Are you sure that you have the timing set correctly and are operating the spark advance lever as it should be? If it is too retarded you will lack pow...

Re: Thermal Dynamics
Try the Penrite oil. It can do wonders for a leaking steering box.

Re: Headlights and Horn In-op
On the horn make sure the connections to the horn are clean. You can get at them by removing the small screw on the back cover of the horn. Then take a small piece of fine sand paper and polish the commutator. Do this by turning the horn motor by hand and holding the sand paper against the commutato...

Love the new PA system!
I'll send you a p.m. on the packing.
Have you had any issues with oil migrating out the rear of the Warford?

Warford Packing
I've been working on my Warford and would like some input on the packing. On the parts list it shows two pieces of packing (#2048) specified for the rear support (#2044). In an earlier post http://forums.aa-fords.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6078&hilit=warford+transmission AAholic posted where he...
