Re: Would you use this wheel?
You might use it as an interim spare, but I don't see any way it can run true on the front and it can certainly cause a dual application to bend, not run true, may damage the other dual rim, and most importantly, they could come loose with disastrous results. This is why the DOT and every state I am...

Rear Spring clean-up best practices?
In the past I always cleaned up spring leaves by taking them apart and running a hand grinder on both sides of the leaves. It was messy, dusty, and I think it did not do a very satisfactory job. I did not go as deep as the pits because I did not want to take too much strength out of the spring. By n...

Re: Brake grease
I have not tested the high temp grease over the long haul, but I can tell you that I was really disappointed in the performance of the wheel bearing grease I used when I last had the brakes apart 40 years ago. Yes, I know 40 years is a long time, but with AA's, the brakes don't wear out quickly beca...

I would recommend the same high temp brake grease that is available at auto parts stores.

Re: Worm end cap question and safety wire
Most guys who work on airplanes (large and small) do a lot of safety wiring and I have found them willing to not only loan me their tool, but also be more than willing to tell me what I did wrong when I used it. If you act dumb enough, rather than loan you their tool, they might just do it for you. ...

Re: 1930 Model AA Engine and Transmission Worth
I have a BB frame with rear end in it. What dimensions and or pictures are you looking for? If you want pictures, someone will have to show me the instructions on how to successfully attach them.

Re: Worm Gear Rearend best service information?
tiredtruckrestorer and 1crosscut, Thanks for your responses. If I recall correctly, the carrier rides on tapered roller bearings and as such, will be destroyed if they have either too much or too little play. So what is just right? I suspect checking the end play will be done before the hubs are ins...

Re: Worm Gear Rearend best service information?
Dave, thanks for the pictures; they are great. Truth be told, I have been inside each of them 35 to 40 years ago, back when I didn't yet know what I didn't know. Now that I know the value of information, I have a ton of questions like: How many housing lengths and axle shaft lengths are there and wh...
