Lock ring safety wire
In recent months I've seen 2 issues in Secrets magazine with articles and photo of 20" lock rings with safety wire on then. Here's what they look like, there are 2 pins sticking out of each end of the lock ring and each pin has a hole drilled in it for stainless steel safety wire, probably 3/32...

Re: some questions and a few anwsers?
Hi guys, I'd like to know what year AA we're discussing here. Is it the 29 with 11" drums on the front or the later 30-31 with the 14" drums. This subject interests me because I'm restoring a 29 AA and i'm would like to put cast iron drums on the front and on the rear.

Re: '29 AA Front wheel grease seal
I'm restoring a 29 AA, I removed the front hub and looked at it. There is no seal or slinger, it has a baffle, the hub slides over the baffle about 1/4", the hub measures about 2.625 inside and the baffle measures about 2.620 OD, thats only .005" clearance, thats your seal against dirt get...

Re: Worm gear up rear bearing
I havent heard of the bearing problem but some one on this forum probably has. I'm looking at the Jim Schilds AA book, pg 21 worm drive schematic drawing, on top and in back of the worm there are 2 bearings, the front is a roller bearing and in back of it is a thrust ball bearing and in back of it i...

Re: bevel rear end
Looking at the Jim Schilds book page 19, the 28 to 29 rear axles assemblies had a part number like AA 4000 then followed by 2 letters to designate the gear ratio.

Re: AA whells both pattern
I believe the cars and pick ups have a bolt pattern of 5 on a 5 1/2" circle.
The AA trucks have bolt pattern of 5 on 6 7/8" circle.

I've been thinking for years about building an express body bed for my 29 AA. I have the Restorer magazine July/August 1996, in it are alot of encellent detail drawings and information by Neil Wilson. Heres what I need to know. My AA truck was built Oct. 29, it has the small front axle like the A's. It has 11" pressed steel drums on the front like the A's had. The lug pattern on the A's is 5 on 5.5 , the lug pattern on the AA truck is 5 on 6 7/8". My milling machine has a 3 axis digital read out, and a circular b...

Re: AA front aprings
What I'm going to print comes from the Jim Schild book on AA's page 37. The front springs for AA trucks include at least four varieties. The 1928-29 truck had a standard AA-5310-AR spring along with the heavier 18 leaf AA-5310-AR. These springs were the same width as the model A car spring but with ...
