Sounds like someone has bent the attachment arms on your float.
It should be adjusted with gaskets and not bent to get to the proper height.
There is lots to read on the net about carbs.

I drove my AA 547 miles during 2014.
I should figure up how much gas that took.
Maybe I will do that in my spare time.

Stakebed, that's a good question. I have never been inside any of my A or AA engines. I want to learn but also want to replace my tired engine along with my transimssion, which has a broken 1st gear. A fresh engine and tranny would be the best of all worlds.

I have a hard time getting my arms around how they even got it off and then back on when I had my new tires put on.
