Re: Rod knockin'
Go back to the stock distributor set up and see if that helps. That way you will know if that is the problem. You don't want to be running it if it is so advanced it's causing it to knock. Engines don't like that. Well, turns out the rattle was not timing related, I thought it was because I could c...

Re: Thermal Dynamics
Thanks for the question, Neil. Andy Weideman had a cooling presentation out there that I'd like to reference but can't seem to find right now, so I'll put into my own words. The presentation refers to the Model A cooling system as a hybrid thermosyphon/water pump system, with the water pump being e...

Re: Setting timing with test light.
You are getting closer. Do you have full movement of the arm coming out of the distributor? In other words \does the lever touch each side of the distributor body when the lever is fully up and when the lever is fully down?

Re: Setting timing with test light.
Try a different distributor to see if the fit is tighter. Is your set screw worn?

Re: Setting timing with test light.
It should go out with just a slight movement of the spark lever.

Re: coolant Temp.
Sounds as if you have covered the bases. However timing could still be the issue if the advance lever coming out of the rear of the distributor is not traveling the full distance to each edge of the opening in the distributor body. This not being set correctly before the timing is set is a major sou...

Re: coolant Temp.
I think in a perfect world it should be in the 180 -190 range. This is a temperature that is well below boiling but warm enough for efficient running and to evaporate condensation out of the engine oil. My truck tends to run on the lower side at 160 - 180. Just my opinion but I think every A and AA ...

Re: Warford cluster gear shaft.
I have a company lined up to make the shaft for me. Just waiting on getting the new bearings in hand to be sure that they are right before giving the go ahead for making a new shaft. Once I get the bearings and make sure they are correct I will start a new thread with the bearing numbers and where t...

It has the same heft and feel as the standard shift balls but yes it is metal. Didn't realize that until you asked and I put a magnet to it.

Mine is very quiet. Have you ever had yours apart? You might have a journal roller bearing that has gone bad.
