Where can I find the speedometer gear AA-17271-H? It's for the 5.14 to 1 rear end.

Re: drive line removal from rear axle
Thank you, Frank. My 31 has what I believe is the newer bevel gear differential. You referred to a worm drive in your answer. Is there a worm gear as part of a bevel gear differential?

drive line removal from rear axle
I'm going to have a rear end shop refurbish the inside of the rear axle on my 31 AA. I've been reading about the upper torque tube restoration and will tackle that myself. My question for the group is, "When the torque tube is unbolted from the rear axle, does the drive line come out with the t...

Re: emergency brake lever bushing replacement
Thanks Dave. I am not proud of it, but I drove out the brass inserts with a big hammer and a small screwdriver. As a novice with these ancient rebuilds, I hesitate to hit something really hard and then discover there is a keeper hiding or the piece is actually threaded in. I see in the brake levers ...

torque tube front bearing, race, and seal replacement
I'm rebuilding the entire rear axle on a 31 AA. At this point I'm assuming I will need to replace the torque tube front bearing, race, and seal. In my search of this website, I found a thread from January 2011 on replacing these parts. I saw Neil's handy driver made of 5' pipe and a machined bell re...

emergency brake lever bushing replacement
I'm trying to remove the rear emergency brake lever and two piece brass bushing in my 31AA. This bushing pair is shown in the Snyders catalog as Part AA-2644-A. Like most parts to remove, this one doesn't budge. The difference is the brake lever appears to remain in the radius arm casting until the ...

Floating motor mounts
Does anyone have experience with a floating rear motor mount? My friend with a Model A pickup says it is a must to have this to reduce the motor vibration. I see Snyder's has a kit, but it is not in the AA section. Does the AA OEM motor mount accept this "floating" system, and if so, does ...

Re: leaf spring restoration
Thanks for your reply, Chris. What is gained by spring restoration? Does it improve the ride? As a practical matter, I don't envision loading this AA with enough weight to challenge the suspension.

leaf spring restoration
I"m contemplating simply rebushing and repainting the front and rear leaf springs, and not disassembling them and reassembling them. Besides discovering a broken leaf, what improvements can I make by going to the trouble of disassembling, polishing, and reassembling the springs? I have a 31 131...

Re: Rear spring shackle bushing?
Thank you, Neil. I was using the wrong terminology. I agree the shackles are on the front end of the rear spring. I will want to re-bush and re-pin these shackles. Looking at the rear end of the same spring, the upper seat assembly in your attached picture has a place for what I think is called the ...

Rear spring shackle bushing?
Is there a bushing in the rear spring shackle of a 31 AA? After removing the rear axle from the spring, I see a lot of slop between the spring shackle casing the bolt that carries the weight of the truck on the axle. It appears the removal of this bolt will take on a life of its own and I'd like to ...

Sandblast a differential
I want to sandblast the rear drive train (axle, differential, torque tube, brake drums, backing plate, etc). This is a 31 AA. Basically I dropped the running gear from the rear spring and pulled it out. My question: Besides covering the drive shaft on the front of the torque tube, is there any breat...

Coupler shaft and gear search
I have two 31 AA's, one is the 131" WB and the other is the 157" WB. Both are in the "project" phase. I'm learning the gear on output spline of the transmission, (I believe part #AA4811) is hard to find. I also need the coupler shaft for each of these, because the female splines ...

frame paint removal
I am about to prepare the frame on my '31 for repainting. Is it necessary to remove the existing paint to bare metal and start over? Or, can the prep be limited to removing loose paint and using a pre-paint wash? If the paint must be removed, what have others done to make this easier? I have the opt...
