Those directions were for a 1931 AA Ford

In order to remove the brake actuating arm, the grooved pin that holds the spindle in place must be removed so the spindle will rotate. That allows the stud on the arm to swing free of lug on top of the spindle.
First thing is remove pin First when disassembling, replace pin Last when assembling.

Thanks so much for all the replies and help. And the sketch, much needed! I should have mentioned, I have the front assembly removed from frame and am just in the process of removing some of the parts to repair if need and paint before sticking it back on the frame.

Mine has a stud coming off of the housing instead of a bolt screwing into it. I'll have to see if the threaded stud will unscrew from the housing. Thank you, I'll check that out.

Thanks, the thing that concerns me is, the brake actuating arm is in a housing that is situated between the king pin and the apparatus that goes through and the wishbone how is that brake arm housing removed.

Pin through shaft removal. Any ideas, it don't want to move.

Model A distributor, there is a collar on the shaft right below the housing. It looks like it has a pin through it to hold it on the shaft. How is it removed, I tried driving it through, couldn't move it. Anyone had this problem, or have an answer.

I used the wire brush, sander, sweat and mess way of doing mine. Worked good, but $200.00 sounds like the way to go.

I got the backing plate with removed with the brakes attached. Quite simple really, I just had a mental letdown first time around. Linings look good, drums look good. Just a lot of prepping, re-paint and move on.

I'm removing the front backing plates to do some clean up and paint. Do I have to remove brake linings and what is the procedure for removing the unit.

I have a long WB 31 and it has 9 5/8" holes on each side. I'm sure they were tooling holes for fabricating the frame. The holes you have in the same pattern ends right behind the last cross member. Don't know what to think about the other holes.
