AA Ford toe in

The specification for Ford Model A toe-in is 1/16" measured 6" above the floor. I am thinking that the AA should be little more, due to the larger diameter wheels: say 3/32". Or am I splitting hairs? What is the collective wisdom for AA toe-in? I plan to use a chalk line on the tread ...

11" steel front brake drums

I was abe to salvage my front brake drums. They were only about 0.003" out of round and a skim of about 0.010" got the surface clean. I installed reinforcing bands, so the 10% loss of material should be offset by the additional material of the bands. Installing the bands was straight forwa...

Re: new member

Douglas Fir is pretty common here. It can be quite expensive, but it can also be free. I have salvaged some decent stuff from the cut block waste and from windfalls along the road. We were picking mushrooms in a stand of Douglas Fir yesterday. Quite majestic. There is a 300 year old tree just up the...

Re: new member

I'll get some more photos eventually. Right now the truck is in the shed with the axle on the floor and the various parts scattered about. The shed is not the best place for photos. I have applied paint to the axle, perches, backing plates, wishbone, etc. and the paint should harden up enough to beg...

Re: new member

The building is relatively new; about 15 years: steel frame on slab with red cedar/Douglas fir timbers and creek stone accents to match the other buildings on the property. It is used for the old Velocette and Moto Guzzi motorcycles that have followed me home in the past. The AA lives in a shed atta...

Re: rear view mirror and california registration

Why not get any old mirror that glues onto the glass and scrape it off after CHP has been satisfied? It is unlikely that you will ever get busted for a missing mirror while driving your old truck,

My name is Alan Comfort and I live in Roberts Creek, BC, CANADA. I am new to the Ford AA truck world. I picked up my '28 AA flat bed in June and have been working toward getting it roadworthy. It has a non matching number four banger with a three speed gearbox and worm drive differential without the...

Re: rear view mirror and california registration

I used this black cast iron mirror on my AA: https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_model_a/model-a-ford-windshield-stanchion-post-mirror-closed-cab-pickup-only-black.html My '28 AA has two threaded holes at the top of the door post, just below the roof line that were perfect for this mirror. I had to g...

Re: AA FORD SHOCKS

Thanks for all the shock info. The left front shock is equipped with the Type 1 arm and there are no markings on the arm. There are no rear shocks or any evidence of past shock mountings.. I will keep a lookout for the correct rear shocks and the required mounts, or i may (or may not) fabricate some...

Re: 28 AA front axle

I did not know there is a difference in the shock arms. It looks like I will need to find the right part or modify the one that is on the way.

Re: 28 AA front axle

Thanks for all of the replies. Not sure if my brake drums are the updated version or not. It is not the same as the one in the photo below. I have a photo but cannot figure out how to insert it. The shoes look like the passenger car type with 1-1/2" wide linings. I managed to straighten the axl...

28 AA front axle

I just removed the front axle from my '28 AA in order to replace the kingpins, front spring, shackles and shocks, overhaul the brakes and to paint the axle related parts. With the axle on the floor it became obvious that it is bent. The middle of the axle is about 1-3/8" ahead of the axle centr...
