Re: Tire size and tread pattern
Hi, the stock 30-31 wheels had an offset for 600 X 20 tires maximum on the rear having duals. 650 X 20 tires will rub each other on the bottom bulge. I have special studs and spacers on my truck to accept the 650 X 20 tires. If the tires rub each other, the heat generated from the tires will not dis...

Re: What year is this?
Hi, you may have rusty cars, but they do not appear to be rust buckets. Sell them complete, I do not think you will get much more for your time and energy to part them out. Nearly everyone on this website would condemn parting a complete car out but perhaps a hotrod website would promote you to part...

Re: Original Window Riser Crank Handle Needed
Same exact scenario happened to me a month ago. The engine and road vibrations must have unscrewed the screw and as I opened the passenger door the handle just fell off, hitting the edge of the running board just right and suddenly there were two. I "aged" a new one so it matches until I f...

Re: Front Axle
Hi all, to throw another wrench into the pot; on page 392 of the service bulletins (Nov. 29) it states "The length of the truck front radius rods has been increased by 3/16". This change makes for easier handling of the truck by giving the front axle a 3 degree caster". It continues w...

Re: Radius Ball
Hi, top to bottom will wear more than side to side. Attached are pics of a used ball with a dial caliper. I would guess that 1.5" may be the original diameter. Clad welding/grinding/filing works well, and the shim works well. When using the shim, put it on top of the ball so that the steering c...

4 speed shifter tower leak
The only oil leaks that I have in my 4 speed transmissions is through the shifter rail bores in the transmission tower. The rails act as a pump and with every shift a few drops of oil gets pumped out of those bores. Also I had a puzzling situation with my doodlebug, which is always parked outdoors, ...

Re: flywheels and faster shifting
One B flywheel and another weird flywheel, both cut down for V-8 clutches. The V-8 pressure plate is about 2# lighter than the Model A pressure plate, including the bolts. The one flywheel I found at a swap meet for $20, it was never used and I probably will not use it. To me, a balancer should damp...

flywheels and faster shifting
I have put several AA 4 speeds in my little Model A pickups with stock MODEL A flywheels. One MUST double clutch and take your time when shifting. I like the feel until I drive up an incline from a stop, then shifting becomes more of a concern. I have recently placed a cut down Model A flywheel usin...

Wheel well bubbles for 28 -30 express beds. 28- 29 rear frame horn ends, last 30" to replace the ones cut off for ex-dump trucks. Express rear fenders and fender brackets. Was there a special tail light bracket for 28-30 express trucks?

frame numbers
Hi, attached are pictures of the numbers from a 28 AA frame that I have. Note that the numbers are composed of 3 different heights of characters. At the factory there was a person that transposed the engine numbers to the frame. Do you think that he had a hand full of stamps and when one stamp wore ...

Tire changing
Thanks to Bob C for the you tube video! I watched some other tire safety videos and learned a LOT. I fixed my first split rim flat tire at age 14 on our 50 GMC 3/4 ton farm truck. Over the years I have added some "safety" improvements to my technique, but now realize that the 5 safety chai...

Hi, I used the same mixer technique, but I use nuts and bolts instead of gravel with the acid. They can be extracted easier by using a magnet. Steve.

About the standard pistons, # 3 cyl was a little sloppy and I found a NOS .005 original Ford piston on ebay and set it in there. Steve.
