Re: Why Is It Backfiring
I know it's unusual in the days of ethanol, but maybe you got a batch of "bad" (water saturated) gas. Premium burns neither faster nor more efficient than 87 oct. It just has a higher detonation pressure. Most carfolk understand that a diesel engine fires off of compression, not spark (and...

Re: Mold help- the fuzzy white kind
It won't help now, but if you can leave a trouble light with a 40 watt bulb turned on inside the vehicle during the Fall, Winter and Spring, it will keep it a couple of degrees warmer than atmospheric and this keeps out the moisture by preventing condensation. The warmth will also invite in the litt...

Re: Why Is It Backfiring
My guess would be air leaks, but like the rest it is only a guess. Could be warping of the manifolds or the carb. I fought with a Tillotson carb for the last week before giving up on it because the top half is just too warped to seal. As for premium gas, it should have no effect, although as stated ...

Re: Distributor shaft stops turning
I would suggest against using the various metal replacement timing gears that have been available over the years. The fiber timing gears were made to be the weak link intentionally. Sheared teeth there are much more easily (and cheaply) replaced than other valvetrain parts. Luke

So my wife and I have lived in our home for 12 years. Our power provider sent us a note to say that they would be shutting off our power in 10 days if we didn't put up a mast and get it "up to code." The electrician comes tomorrow, so I decided to take the cover off of the entrance to the ...

....and no.......I don't know why the water neck is red! When dropping the pan, you'll need something like this to hold the oil pump in the block. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g224/1931FordRPU/oilpumpretainer.jpg It goes in the little plug straight down from the distribitor, below the valve cov...

^^^^^What Bob said!!!^^^^^ It will give you a chance to feel the rods for slop and check to see if there are any shims in the rods and mains. This may give you an idea how long your engine might last. 1. I drove my fathers '29AA out of the barn it had been sitting in since July 5, 1975 with a wiring...

Your radiator should be the same as a '28 thru mid '30 Model A. 4 cores didn't show up until April 1930 in the Ford Service Bullitins. Luke

Re: new owner... with questions/want ads
You don't need to remove the steering wheel to get the light rod out, there is a horse shoe clip at the bottom of the rod you need to remove and you can pull it out. Bob X2! if you're not replacing the steering wheel or rebuilding the steering box, I wouldn't take it apart. There may be a metal &qu...
