Re: Can 28 Dual High be removed without moving engine?

Being as the 'dual-high' bolts directly to the opposite side of the same crossmember that the torque-tube does, I would say NO, but others may have a different opinion.

Re: 1928 Roadster pickup

It would help to know WHICH state, but if you're purchasing it from the current property owner, it would be a good idea to pre-check with your DMV as to how to proceed with a 'LEIN SALE' so as to obtain paperwork acceptable to the state in place of the original paperwork. This process varies from st...

Re: AA chassis on ebay

I also noticed the rear spring to center pivot 'U- Bolts' as '29 or later(?), & the rear axle also.

Re: AA chassis on ebay

I have the same frame configuration on my late '28 frame, so I don't think it's been cut. the fender brackets & running board brackets seem later, possibly late '29/newer or even reproduction(I'll wait for Neil to 'chime-in' on this.) The wheels on the chassis look '29, but the loose wheels look...

Re: Early AA truck U joint

Would a later 'short-shaft' interchange & have a matching spline(10/10)? I don't know, that's why I'm asking. Otherwise find a machine shop 0that modifies axle shafts to get a shaft re-splined(you will probably need someone else's "extra" long shaft to cut down & re-spline to make ...

If you use an electric pump, don't forget a pressure regulator(about 2lbs+or- so you don't overload the carb) & a fuel shut-off.

Re: Rear axle housing wheel bearing repair sleeves

Forget the BIG lathe concept : "Think outside the box" ; Years ago I worked in a machine shop where a large shaft came in requiring re-machining to a center, & all our lathes were occupied. Instead of tearing down a lathe set-up, the head machinist set the unit into a set of large floo...

Re: Rear axle housing wheel bearing repair sleeves

The only source I was able to find (2 yrs ago)was "ORA SCHWALM'S" at 717-687-6976. He is 'pricey'!! (I found it cheaper to buy another complete rear end & gamble on it's condition, but I was lucky!) I was looking for '30-'31 AA & '32-'34 BB housings, as I needed a later axle under ...

Re: Head gasket leak

When replacing head gaskets, especially on a complete rebuild, it is a good idea to check the block for 'flatness' as well as the head! Yes, it is rare, but has been known to happen, & checking it 'now' only takes a few minutes, & is a lot easier than chasing leaks later!

Re: California registration rule

Especially for those of you who live in CA ( or deal with the CA DMV), a suggestion: when dealing with a lower level DMV person who turns out to be an 'idiot' : ask to speak to their Supervisor, & if the Supervisor is also an 'idiot', keep going up the chain until you get to the Manager. By this...

Re: Fabricating pickup bed for my '28 SWB 'AA'

Still looking! Does anybody have leftover parts from a PU bed 'build'? or a bed that's only good for parts? I'm looking for posts & sides & a rear frame to mount the tailgate against/into. Please, check your sheet- metal 'scrap-piles'!! see my previous post.

Re: Shortened Pitman Arm?

Try slower steering. Draw it out : the end of a shorter arm doesn't travel as far as the end of a longer arm, so the benefit is more leverage at the steering wheel, so it's easier, slower steering, just more turning the wheel to get there.

Re: Is this a Ruckstell

While it's not a Ruckstell, it is an auxilary gearbox of some kind on the torquetube in front of the worm-drive axle. If you could wire brush the box & determine the maker, it would be appreciated by the rest of us! Most of the auxilary gearbox/transmission manufacturers were proud enough of the...
