Re: Removing Flywheel

Screw a couple of the flywheel bolts back in as few threads and then work the flywheel with a screw driver or small pry. It shouldn't take much and it will come off. If it comes off with out a couple bolts in place it will get away from you and it is heavy.

Re: Model AA serial numbers

There was a period of time when they were just stamped with a single A.
I would have to check to find when but it seems part of '29 was included.
After the 4 speed was introduced it went back to AA.

Re: shifter tower1931 AA

As far as how the shifter is held in. It can be either of two ways. If the cover around the shifter in on the outside of the tower it screws on. If it sets down inside the top it is spring loaded and you have to push down and turn slightly counter cloclwise to unlock it. I have some pictures if I ca...

Re: My 29 AA

I've seen doors that didn't look as good as those sell for near $500 each.
I'd say you did alright.

Get some wood in the cab and a top and seats for the old girl and run it.

Re: 1929 Grill Shell

Some of the 29 AA's if not all had a thicker rad ( 4 core) but used the same shell.

Re: Transmission ID??

Scratch around and see if you can come up with some casting numbers.

Just going from memory the rear one looks like one from an old chev truck. I think '48 and earlier had the trigger lock out for reverse and the top cover had that shape.

Not much more than a guess though.

Re: I want to spin my engine over with the Starter

The tube from the block to the valve cover is a return pipe that allows the excess oil pumped up to the valve chamber to return to the pan. The oil pump pumps the oil up at the oil pump shaft. The oil in the valve chamber runs down to the mains through passages in the block to oil the mains. Be sure...

Re: HAHA part of the club now.

I would look a little more forward on the frame. Often they are right behind the motor mount bracket and pretty close to the outside edge of the frame.

Re: I want to spin my engine over with the Starter

The starter does not care which way it is hooked up. It still turns the right direction.
Many A's are running around that have been converted to 12V neg. ground using an original starter.

Re: 31 AA chassis questions

If you get 6 good wheels you have the $400 covered right there. Here is a pic of what the vin should be like. It should have a star both before and after the numbers and a 31 AA would have AA before the numbers. With this number you can determine the approximate month and year the chassis was assemb...

Re: Engine Number?

Frame number indicates a March '31 engine build date.
I would guess the engine is from an agriculture or industrial application and has been swapped in sometime in the past.
Ford sold engines to many other companys who put their own engine numbering on them.

Re: Can anyone tell the date(month) this truck was made??

That seems quite reasonable but it is hard to know. I have heard of cars that the owner had a sales invioce for that was very few days after the engine date and as much as 3 months lag time is allowed in the judging standards betweem engine date and changes on the vehicle that indicate a later build.

Re: Can anyone tell the date(month) this truck was made??

All of the engines were built in the same plant and stamped as they were built. They were then sent to the other plants where the vehicles were built and the frame was stamped with the engine number when it was installed.

Re: Can anyone tell the date(month) this truck was made??

That indicates an engine built Oct. 1930 so the truck would have been assembled shortly after that.
